A 1.5-4.5X variable should suit your needs well. Or a low fixed power. I use a Weaver 2.5x on mine.

I have a fixed 4x32 on mine but I have also tried others. The thing to remember is get good glass it is almost more important than the rifle itself. For instance I have a stevens 200 that I bought at SIR for $300 but my leupold rifleman 3x9x40 is perfect for most use and the Leup[olds are coming down in price but there quality is second to none. Total pkg was $535.00
For this I can shoot 3 shots in a 1 1/2 inch circle. And Im good shot but no sniper!
Dont cheap out on your glass you will always regret it when that bug buck comes in and your glass is fogged up or blurry, or worse cant hold zero!
