Hi.To my undying shame I bought a NcStar scope..Laugh2.pause for laughter to subside..........
Yep..she went tits up yesterday after 83 days and less than 300 rounds.
Now my dealer is threatening to give me a new one the minute I walk in the store.:( I might be old and fart a lot but I'm not stupid. Im thinking along the lines of a Redfield or a Bushnell. Dont really want to go over 400 bucks ( the divorce papers will be in the post ). Most of my shootin is 200/250 meters but I want to reach out to 6-700 meters, while I can still see.

Any suggestions would be appreciated
At least I have an excuse to get the rattle cans out again :D

I have a Leatherwood HiLux scope on mine,

But that will change next year. I want to get Leatherwood's M1000 (see http://www.amazon.com/dp/B006GZDEIS/ref=asc_df_B006GZDEIS2063321?smid=A30DGGRQPDAP9Y&tag=nextagusmp0382367-20&linkCode=asn&creative=395105&creativeASIN=B006GZDEIS). Wolverine carries them.

Because of the beating during cycling you really need a good scope.

Bushnell 3200 10X40.

Should run you about $250. Reasonable glass (doesn't compare to their 4200 stuff, but FAR better than the low-end stuff), reasonable range of adjustment, and solid mechanically.

When I first started shopping for an M14 scope, lots of folks reccommended it to me, and I don't regret purchasing it at all.

bushnell 10x40 is a good call. Someone described it as the m305 owners scope.

Lots of guys run them because they are inexpensive (~$230), fairly robust and offer more than enough features to get by.

a redfield is a good call as well. a 3-9x40 accurange would be perfect on the 305. I have one on my coyote rig in .204. Anything that ends up in the circle out to a couple hundred yards is violently producing large quantities of pink mist for the surrounding environment.

i've got a sightron 10x42 sitting on the top of my safe, looking all pretty and such, waiting for my blackfeather.

I've also run a aimpoint ml3 and eotech 512 - all my optics play roulette on my rifles until I find what works, and what doesn't.
The ml3 was not bad, eotech sat to high.

Bushnell 10x40 for sure. Just make sure its the new model with the blacked out cosmetics. Model # ET1040 Argon purged and I believe its built off a 4200

There are a couple scopes that come to mind here that may save the marriage. There is the bushnell 4-16x40 IR scope for about $139.00 or for $119.00 at P&D you can get the 4-12x40 CRF IR scope with 70moa adjust (###y scope) but the turrets are designed to work with 223 and 30-06 :(

I don't really get why you'd run a non-IR scope on a battle rifle, how are you supposed to shoot when you need a night gun

X2 Just mounted it up those weekend and needs to be sighted in :D

To the OP, if you went with a cheap scope, what mount are you using?? I ask as the M1A will eat cheap scopes and mounts for breakfast.

sightmark red dot with a sightmark 7x Flip-to-side zoom behind. I tried the scope, but realized the gun was a battle rifle, and didnt warrant a big scope on it.

just my two cents....

well, color me confused.

so instead of a big scope you went with a 5 MOA dot magnified 7x?

isn't 7x a little much for a battle rifle with a red dot suited for < 100m ?

Just wondering, not trying to be confrontational. Yes, it is a battle rifle, but don't you want to try to wring as much accuracy out of it as possible?

I agree the setup isnt the best for great groups out on the horizon, but i like the fact i can hit head sized targets continuously at 400m, the zoom is good for "further observation" when needed. It's just a setup i've worked with in the past, and liked enough to bring it to my personal gun.
