What shotgun are you running?

So...anyone buying all this fancy equipment feel like going to the IPSC Shotgun World Championships in France next June?
What better way to really see what it and you can do!

Why do that...it's much better just to post that you got 1st place in your local match, and it was all because of the gun you chose to run.

Blah blah blah, my modern varmint helped me take first place...blah blah blah

In any event, I don't see any reason guys with pumps here wouldn't run a 12 round magazine minimum. Locally that's what we do.

I've seen as much as 15+1 capacity.

And for me personally; I'm not really any faster from target to target with an automatic.
So I might as well take the capacity advantage of a pump.

I don't know much about pumps, but on a semi shotgun I know they have a built-in magazine that usually holds 4 rounds. Then a person could buy a +8 or +9 extension and be holding about 13 in the extension. My Versamax works that way, where I run a +8 tube in the States and it holds 12 in the tube. And plenty of guys in the States stack on another extension to hold in the 14-16 range in their tube-fed Open-division shotguns.

We tend to have stages where we shoot through very small ports so a 4 foot magazine tube is a bit awkward, and start some stages empty so regardless of capacity, you all load at the same speed. And, hard to find them in Canada. You cannot compare U.S. matches with Canada for equipment choices. Apples and oranges.

After careful consideration, I would like to give favourable mention to the mag fed semi auto shotguns. With practice, and a good quality gun you can really blaze away. Good for empty gun starts as well. I knew I needed another shotgun !!

I have yet to see a magazine fed shotgun work perfectly.
The main issue I have seen repeatedly is the magazine (out of the gun) tends to either stand the top shell up or spit them all out when handled vigorously.
Fix that and I’m in.

....and then there's the problem with having to. switch up ammo types mid stage.
Far easier/faster to go from shot to slug to buck and back again with a tube fed shotgun...
'Seen mag fed gun users world crumble around them as they tried to manage that situation.
Sad.

So far I've been happy with my stoger m3k for my first year shooting any sort of shotgun competition. My first match was with an 18" Winchester defender and did decently.

I guess it all depends how the stages are set up. Buckshot has not been allowed in the local matches, and I'm not sure how it is easier to shoot the last 4 rounds of a shotgun stage requiring slugs for the long shots. It would have been easier to dump the mag and go to a slug mag. So I guess match setup is crucial. I think a stage should not be set up to favour one type of gun over another. But thats a tough one.

Would this be either running KSG/UTAS (I heard these are horrible to load) or Sidewinder drum kit on a 500/870 or something else? What are my options for pumps with these capacity? I prefer pump myself too and would like to stay with that instead of semi.

My mossberg 590 with Nordic mag extension tube holds 16+1. I enjoy shooting my pump gun as well. Some day I may switch to a semi, but pump guns are just so much fun and I’m in 3gun for fun.
