A ruffed grouse with a Stevens 311 16 ga double. Using old paper roll crimped cartridges. It was in a clump of staghorn sumac and came out almost at my feet. I fired and was so shocked when it dropped.
Grandpa's Model 31 Remington 12 bore. Shot a Crow at 20yds watched the Feathers fly in a perfect full choke circle. As the Crow kept flying out over the Atlantic, only to drop like a stone 100 yds. out
A ruffed grouse with a 12 Gauge Winchester 97...it was sitting on a tree branch. The .22 my Dad was carrying would've done the job just as good, but I wanted to shoot a 12 Gauge. It was my first time shooting a shotgun and I missed him on my first shot. Dropped'em on the second though
Parker Brothers 12gu. Field Grade side-by-side double with two full choke barrels. My Grandfathers' gun circa 1900 I believe. Vulcan steel barrel; NOT Damascus.
(Nice fat Sharptail on the flush!)
Still have it. (The shotgun-not the sharptail for goodness sake!)
It is a gun cabinet queen nowadays. Haven't fired it in 25 years or so.
Old Cooey (?) single shot .410 when I was five. Dad knelt down and helped me hold the gun on a grouse while I yanked the trigger. Man, talk about a kid feeling on top of the world.
A ruff with a Cooey 20 gauge, I had just bought it from a neighbor. My Dad split the cost with me, we paid $10.00 each lol. I gotta take that old Cooey out this fall.
