Ok, I am a total newbie at guns so I need some help...

I want a Stainless Steel Shotgun that is low maintenance for both bear defence and waterfowel. It should have a choke that can be inserted in the end and should have a camo pattern. (under $1000.00)

I hear you are the experts... what do you recommend.

You can't get a stainless steel in a camo pattern,I don't think. I also think that stainless guns won't take screw in chokes, and no stainless guns come with barrel lenth suitable for waterfowl hunting. FS

I think the only (correct me if I am wrong) "stainless" shotgun is the 870 Marine Magnum, which is nickle coated. You could have it threaded for a choke, and paint it yourself in camo or have someone else do it.

Good luck,
Adam

Do You want a pump or a semi?
I'd get what ever you like and have it parkerized and painted cammo with a good "Armacoat" style gun paint.

Remington 870 Marine Magnum (7-shot) , or Mossberg 500 Mariner (9-shot)

Both are stunning pump-guns, I myself own the 870 Marine Magnum and love it...smooth action, and accurate as a MOFO.

From waterfowl hunting to bear defense, pump, camo, removable chokes, under $1000.Hmmm

For waterfowl you will want a decent length barrel, a short barrelled defense type shotgun would never do. For bear protection, in close, the shorter barrel would be nice, quick to point, and shot pattern will open quickly, even better get a slug barrel.

I think you need a gun like the Mossberg 835 Ulti-mag, with a second shorter barrel. You got the best of both worlds, and is easily do-able for under $1000, even with the second barrel.

If you like a more radical look there is the camo tactical, or the camo thumbhole model 835. I doubt the tactical would be practical for waterfowl hunting. You could get the thumbhole model, and add a long barrel for waterfowl.

Food for thought.:)

Mossberg Mariner 500

If you want to do it all, get the 500 version of the mariner. Won't be so front heavy as the 590 version with its 8 round mag. You lose 3 rounds capacity, but its handier and can mount a shorter barrel (18.5"). Easy to swap barrels on the 500, so you can bird hunt or do whatever you want. I've owned a 500 (but not the marine coat one) for years and nver had a problem with it.

The Mossberg 835 Ulti-Mag has an overbored barrel, can't shoot slugs.

Take a look at the Mossberg 500 Tactical Turkey. Camo finish, adjustable pistol grip stock, screw in chokes, 20" barrel. They go for about $550.
It's the closest thing to a "do everything" shotgun that I've come across.
