Hi everyone.

I bought a Ruger 10/22 on the weekend, and I am looking to stock up on some .22 ammo. Nothing fancy, just bulk packs. Anyways, I've never bought .22 before, and I'm wondering what it should be worth. Canadian tire has packs of 1,600 CCI ammo in a ammo can for 129.99. Is that a good price? Anyways im just curious on what .22 ammo should be priced at.

Thanks for the replies. Figured I'll go stock up today, just needed a ballpark on prices. Also I get a kick out of looking at all the boxes of ammo when I get them home.

Really, when you get down to it, 22lr ammo has not really gone up in price that much over the years. I mean, 40 years ago a box cost about a dollar. Now its $2.50-ish. In the same time span we've seen gasoline go from about 9¢ a litre to what, $1.25? A corvette coupe from $5600 to well over $70,000.

22lr is still a great buy all things considered.

Go to your local gun shop or if you don't have one Walmart, Canadian Tire, TSC etc etc and buy one of each 50pk of .22 rounds. Go out and burn through it all and see what shoots the best for you and your rifle.

Then start buying bulk.

Somehow I have a mental block paying more than $0.05 per round for bulk packed ammo. I can usually find it for in the 4.5 cent range. I think the most I've paid is $0.06 per round and that was just because it was CCI Blazer. As others have stated, buy a whole bunch of different 50 round boxes of ammo and try them to see what your rifle cycles best and is most accurate with. Last thing you want is 1600 rounds of ammo your rifle doesn't like ......... that's no deal at any price!

I have some 50 round boxes of 22s from 40+ years ago, and many were in the $1 to $2 range. As you note, relatively speaking, they are much cheaper now than they were back then.

if I remember correctly there was a thread about the 1600 ammo cans earlier and they were said to be MiniMags and $130 for 1600 MiniMags is a good buy

Also, as for the OP's deal, I know that some places are selling CCI Mini Mags, 1500 in an ammo box for around $125. Is the ammo actually Mini Mags, not Blazer?

If so, then the price is very reasonable.
