What should be expecting to pay for a new good barrel?

I want to maybe change the barrel of my 308 savage (10TR). I readed a lot on the subject and Watched a lot of videos about doing it. Looks not a big deal (i have a machining and mechanic background experience), need the go and maybe the no-go gages, the wrench, and I will replace the recoil lug because the savage ones are usually horribles.

I had one quote for a stainless drop-in barrel of a good quality brand (Shilen), and it was around 575 $, 475$ non-stainless.

I want to know if you already paid less for a good barrel? I honestly does'nt need to have a stainless one... Unless you guys tell me that it is better.

I want to have and idea!

Pre fits are the way to go for economy. Chambered, shouldered and fitted may or may not give you 0.1-0.2 moa advantage in my experience. The price appears right between $6-800 depending on prefit vs fitted. In my experience, choose the prefit and don't look back. If you got the cash and patience, enjoy a custom fitted barrel.
The EE for used custom prefits have treated me very well indeed ;)

Cripes, are you me? I emailed Mystic just this morning asking these questions. I was thinking about 6.5cm for my 10TR.

Seems like $600 is going to be the approximate cost. I was hoping it was cheaper, but I had never thought about it before, let alone attempt to price it out.
 
Went from 308 to 6.5, never looked back.

Just ordered a stainless Shilen barrel in .300WM on the weekend from Mystic Precision. Prefit savage, #7 varmint profile, target crown, 26" finished length. $723 landed, tax included. Pricey but it should be an epic shooter with the new ratchet rifling and a beautiful bead blasted finish.
