What should i buy for a sxs grouse gun?

Not if you want the "show" to go on!:D
FWIW I wouldn't give the BSS a second look as a SXS, I prefer others......

Show stopper Defination... show-stopper: an act so striking or impressive that the show must be delayed until the audience quiets down

These days in the construction industry the term is used to describe something that will stop the process of something , be it a contract, grievance, or mob/demob , from continuing.

Cat, which make/model is that? I've always wanted to go upland hunting with a double--it has such a classic Autumn look to it...and under $1k?
This one carries about as well as any single shot around and it was under $1,000.!

It would be different though if it is a BSS sidelock (English/DT/Splinter) either in 12 or more specifically a 20! :)

That one is a CZ Bobwhite - GREAT little shotgun!
I bought it used for $750 IIRC.
Cat

I've always felt that the CZ Bobwhite offers great value as an Upland gun in its price range.....believe a new one could now be had for around $850+tax.

Who sells them new? It seems that the CZ shotgun line is not represented at most dealers. I'd love my first shotgun to be a CZ.

In your case that may be when somebody mentions something relevant to "tacticool" stuff but within a more conventional shotgun topic!

.....sorry, couldn't help resist :D:D:p

Should you be located out West - suggest check with Prophet River (web link on top of this page) as his offers on all types of firearms are the most competitive as far as I've observed. Ellwood Epps, in ON (website on top as well).

There is a detailed review on the 20 & 28ga Bobwhite (done by Sharptail/Straightshooter - members here) that would make for a very informative read should you decide to buy one.

As an afterthought, should that be your first subgauge sxs - suggest inspect a 20ga Bobwhite as that would offer versatility (read steel shot capability).

IIRC the BSS has non selective triggers which is a show stopper for many.

Cat

Not all BSS's were non-selective triggered. Many do it fact have a selective single trigger, However, I would like for you to relate what it is / why you say a non-selectable single trigger is a showstopper for many. Certainly there are some purist's views that if it is not double triggered, and English stocked, it is not desirable.

Yah the 12 gauges weighed a friggin ton, I know that from toting one in the woods years back, the 20's though are fine handlers especially the Sporters.

While I have not had personal experience with SKB SxS, they are supposedly
light and good handling. Maybe another option.

The only BSS shotguns i have seen recently were non- selective.
Many people like to choose their choke if thee shot is closer or farther, that is why I said it's a show stopper for many.
My Fausti has a non selective trigger - the right barrel fires first.
I don't find it much of an issue myself, but many do.

The regular BSS is indeed clunky and not nice...BSS Sporter is light, comes to the shoulder perfectly and has a selective trigger. The fit and finish is a world of difference to the CZ. The sporters are going for a fortune for a reason.
