What should I do with this?

Hoping some of the restoration/rebuild gurus can jump in here. I got this 45/70 enfield conversion on a trade and it is a hoot to shoot but looks like hell, especially with the synthetic stock. I couldn't help but think it would look very cool with full wood and the iron sights back on it. Is this possible? Any other ideas on what I could do with it? I think even sporter wood would be an upgrade over the synthetic stock. I was planning on selling but have loads of fun shooting it and it is quite accurate, was thinking of keeping it as a close range bear banger.

Cheers

Nothing can be done you have to get rid of it... i'll do you a favor an take it if you want... lol seriously it could be a neat winter project for you!

I am sure Enfield wood could be fitted, it would take a bit of time but it would look better than it does now.
I'm not sure I would wreck a good Enfield stock set though.
Another idea is to paint the whole thing desert camo or woodlands camo.
You could wrap it in a gun ghillie and hunt really big gophers in stealth mode.:D

I was thinking if could find a good sporter set I could make a full wood tanker version

That rifle, is capable of handling some pretty serious loads.

There's lots of sporter wood around. Advertise on the EE for some.

I can see where the iron sights would be handier though, especially in tight wooded areas. If it shoots well though, a lower power scope, say 1 1/2x to 3x, would come in quite handy out to 300m. A long eye relief would be my preference, mounted on the barrel.

Learn to shoot it with both eyes open and it will be every bit as effective as open sights.

You used to be able to get jungle carbine kits to convert a no4 to a jc. I wonder if they are still available? That would look awsome.

If your not sure what to do with it, drop me a line and I'll come down there and take it off your hand's! :D
And you have a Swiss Chalet down there also!

Put a nice wood sporter stock and forend on it, similar to a Lee Speed rifle. Mount a Williams 5D receiver sight on the rear and a sight ramp up front with a Marble's Sourdough or Recknagel post sight.
