So With my tax refund on the way, I was wondering what you guys would suggest for a new semi shotgun.

I have a Super X2 that has been thru hell. Love the thing but its time to upgrade.

I was thinking about a SX3 since the SX2 was top notch. But I don't have a clue on what semi to get.

Cheers

You already own the best "modern" semi there is IMHO. The SX3 has spacers and shims to make LOP, cast and drop adjustments and is about 1/4lbs lighter. So the big question is: Are those "upgrades" really worth spending another $1300 on, considering they use an identical action?

:agree:

I have owned both the 3.5 inch waterfowl version and the 3 inch sport version SX2 and both were flawless, the only time I had a jam was with the 3 inch sport. I was shooting in the bird brain at the Woodlands Sporting Clay shoot and tried to load it too fast and did not fully insert the shell into the magazine tube!

Operator error!

Come on guys, you all only own one autoloader?? :d:d It's never as much about upgrading as it is just fun to get new guns. Knowing your budget and intent would help but if I had all the money in the world I'd be trying out the A400. The biggest thing for me would be having a shim kit, but almost all new autoloaders come this way. It's gonna come down to what feels best in the store. A400, SX3, Maxus, Silver, Versamax, 391, SBEII, and Vinci are all newer top of the line IMO. PM me if you end up trying to sell the SX2, wouldn't mind trying one out :D

Nope...I own 15 Super-X1s, 1 SX2, 3 SX3s, 2 Win. Model 50s, 2 Browning Golds, 1 Browning B2000, 1 Benelli Super Black Eagle, 1 Benelli Super 90 Montefeltro 20ga, 1 S&W Model 1000 Super Skeet, 1 S&W Model 1000 20ga, 1 Remington 11-48 28ga, 1 Rem. 1100 28ga and 1 Ithaca Mag-10...I thinks that it! Lol!

The OP asked about an upgrade...in today's market there's nothing new on the shelf that is better than the SX2 he already owns although their are lots of downgrades possible! Had he stated he simply wanted to add a shotgun to the collection then I'd have had a different opinion! Of course it's just my opinion and because of that fact it doesn't mean anything really! :)

Haha I was only kidding, it's just bad karma to not talk a fellow member into buying a new shotgun. I know many are loyal to the SX2, and SX1 for that matter, and would love to try one out. Wouldnt mind one of those 1100 in 28 gauge either, would be pretty light on the recoil I imagine. Just too bad shells are so expensive.

I don't "own" any auto loaders at all, I have a 48AL that sits in my closet as a loaner, and I am the caretaker of my father's 1100 Remington trap gun, but i shoot neither.

Something like the SX series to me is a gun that many talk about, and the ones I know that shoot them do not worry about getting a "better" gun, or anything- they are quite happy to cycle round after round after round through them!!

The old saying" if it ain't broke don't fix it " comes to mind( grin)
However, if you wanted to buy another gun, I would suggest something completely off the wall, so I won't!

I have owned a SBE2 an A400, and I sold both and settled on the SX-3, actually two of them. They are well made, and extremely reliable, for a reasonable price.

I always enjoy your suggestions Cat, working on acquiring a Milano in 20 gauge as we speak. The more the merrier I figure. But I digress.

Have only heard great things about the SX3. I have shot a couple too and they were great.

VLT79 nice collection indeed ! I love shotguns pumps Auto's o/u 's sxs's I have a mixed collection of all of them enjoy each and every one . Back in the 70''& 80's I shot ten's of thousands of rounds through a sx1 great gun .

I would go for the SX3,...or if you wanted a change you could get a Browning Silver, they have the same internals as the SX3.
I have the Browning Gold, (same as SX3 and Silver), and it has worked flawless for over 18 years in all weather conditions,..not one malfunction of any kind.

I don't agree The gold is similiar and interchanges some parts with the X2 not the sx3 and silver where as they interchange some parts and are of very similiar design
Silver I don't own, rest I still do
All work very well
Cheers

OK 3macs1,.....I was talking about the "Active Valve Gas System",...not all moving parts. They all have the same "Active Valve Gas System" do they not?

In general terms The active value system has been tweeked and improved many times since it's introduction in 1994. Yes one could say they all have the active valve system platform but today's version is improved. I don't know all the changes but know for sure the gas ports sizes differ on the originals which is why my 1st Gold gets cranky on some 1oz loads where as the x3 chews them up
Even Winchester in their x3 literature says

The Active Valve System.

The Super X3 has been refined to produce the
most reliable, fastest shooting and softest recoiling autoloader available.
This simple system consists of a gas etc etc

Right on 3macs1,...I didn't think they could improve on something that works perfectly, lol. If it is better than my Gold then its got to be the best working system out there, because mine has never missed a beat with any shell ever, and there have been lots put through it over the years in all weather. The most amazing thing I have ever seen it do is funtion flawlessly after being submurged under salt water in -15 to -20 degree weather one day while goose hunting. After I accidentally dipped the action under water, it sat against the wall of a rock blind in the freezing temps and cold norwest wind. It was all slush and ice inside the action, so I figured that the day was over for me, but I stayed any way, and when the next bunch of geese came, that friggin thing worked 3 shells through it like it was summer time.
