What should my next .45 be?

I've decided to make .45 ACP my standard pistol caliber. My first pistol purchase was the Sig P220 and I have absolutly no regrets whatsoever.

This morning I caved and did something I swore I never would and ordered a GLOCK 21SF from Questar. I've always loved shooting GLOCKS but never thought I'd buy a polymer pistol. I'm really excited to get it (will put pics in the gallery) but I'm already thinking of what I will get next.

1911s come to mind but I find there are too many types for me to justify getting one or the other. Although I did try to pick up a Springfield Operator with the full length dust cover from the EE but missed it.

SO, I'm looking for suggestions on what to get next. I'm leaning towards a USP but I'm up for anything.

Thanks in advance and pics would be awesome if you've got them.

You should get a decent 1911. Which is to say, one with a decent trigger, in the 3.5# pull range, and good accuracy. If you haven't shot one, you don't know what you're missing. There's a reason why bullseye shooters place such value on a fine single-action trigger.

well here goes.

is it because they are too goddamn lazy to master trigger control of their gun, and rely on machinery instead of skill?

thoughts, opinions on this anyone? i'm curious.

Thanks Ed, Manboy...don't hijack my thread. You might have a valid point but post it somewhere else.

Obtunded, the Valtro looks awesome. It's definetly on my list. Thanks.

I have a Springfield Operator TRP, with the full length dust cover and bull barrel....accurate, great trigger, a delight to shoot.
I can heartily recommend any of the higher end Springfields, but don't think that you would go wrong with a Kimber..right now I want a Desert Warrior!
I also have a 220..love it, as well as a Glock 21...great pistol.
You've got to have a 1911.....:)
PS I've also heard good things about the XD45 and the recently arrived M&P45....so many choices, so little time!:D

I recently picked up a S&W 4506-1.

Stout, well built, flawless functioning pistol, and reasonable accurate. Drawback is heavy trigger and ergo-nomics.

I am still in the market for a 1911 style as well.

I was looking at STI, Para, Kimber but now have put Dlask to top of the list.

I think when it comes time, I will order a Dlask.

He is Canadian and from all accounts does good work.

We need to support our home-grown pistolsmiths and keep them in business.

I agree that if you want to stick with .45 ACP, then a 1911 should be considered an essential part of your collection. You're right though, there are a lot of choices. In the same price range as a USP, I would look at something from Kimber, Springfield or Smith & Wesson. S&W makes a very nice 1911 at a very decent price. They don't get a lot of attention, but I have never talked to anyone that owned one that didn't love it. Especially their PD series with the Scandium alloy frames.

Good luck deciding!

And about the USP... Have you had a chance to actually shoot one yet? Many people (myself included) find the grip on a USP to be quite uncomfortable. But of course, YMMV :)

Well if 45acp is going to be your one calibre
then you definitely need a S&W 625 revolver.
That's a no brainer.
Beautiful for those lazy days when you don,t want to chase brass.
Man can not live on semi autos alone.

Looking forward to a range report, I'm thinking of a G21sf also, so a first hand account would be great

Definitely a 1911. I love my Kimber, and am deciding on which model next.

If not that, then a USP Compact Tactical in .45ACP.

All guns are machinery (even Glocks) and every gun (like every opinion) has it's purpose.
