What should my next .45 be?

Nighthawk is pretty much the king-ding-a-ling of production 1911's - they are a custom shop -- but a custom production shop -- in the way Kimber started (but pissed sway in favour of volume). They are ground up tactical guns.

STI is a nice gun -- I picked their slide for my build, but they are primarily not designed for carry or duty usage.

Kimber makes a nice gun -- but they have gone to some parts that are on the cheap end - which is IMHO a real shame when for very few dollars more they could use top end stuff.

Ed Brown, Springfield Armoury, Wilson Combat are decent guns too - with a bunch of custom features in a production gun.

Then of course you can get into full custom guns from the major US custom builders.

G21SF? You still enjoy those chunky frames hey? Next to the original G21 I find the SF model no huge improvement. At least its a better design than a 1911 (let the bashing begin). It will work out of the box without $2K of modifications.

Did you give the G37 a thought? I've owned one for four years and its the perfect compliment to my G17 and G22, I passed by the .45ACP all together and got the best of both worlds, high mag capacity, .45 terminal ballistics and in a package that doesn't feel like a brick or operate like a 1911 (jam-o-matics).

Yeah, yeah, lots of 1911's run fine and look good, I'd just rather buy four Glocks that work out of the box and I trust my life to than have one 1911 customized to the tilt and still not trust my life with it.

here is my two cents for the 45 ACP
I bought almost half a year ago CZ 87 and it is rather nice shooting
recoil is not bad considering size although it is heavy
Never had a single problem with it acuarcy is really good withoug too much tweaking or in my case none at all
I prefer semi auto dont ask why just do
but again everyone has its preferance I use mine in bush since I am a prospector and I find it reliable

I like Glocks -- but they missed the boat with the 21 and 21SF IMHO.
The 21 was my worst pistol I had ever -- even worse than my Berretta 92F.
The HK45 and S&W M&P 45 are nice guns -- but a good 1911 just fits my hand so nicely -- which is part of what we all have missed -- get a quality gun that fits you.

-- get a quality gun that fits you.

X2

I love the 1911 style pistols I personaly don't think they can be beat and always end up being the one I go back to. I have a Kimber Custom Stainless II on order, should, be here in the next couple of days. I had originally ordered a Detonics Servicemaster.....but Detonics has a few buisness isuess on the go so I cancelled that one, when that is sorted out I may end up with one of them. I love the SIG's I have 2 now, I Want to try out a Sig Revolution. I have also heard some real good things about the CZ (Dan Wesson) 1911's price is great and they look to be a well built pistol. Im heading south this weekend and want to get my hands on a full size Kimber Raptor or Warior, I may be comeing home with another new pistol this week. Wife got a new SIG 226 in Stainless Steel so I guess it's my turn again.

The worst thing about the 1911 is there is so much variety and I would love to have them all, Kinda like a kid a Christmass when I think about shopping for one.

The nuts and bolts of it is as Kevin stated, get what fits you.

1911 parts are all over the place so parts are never an issue, if your buddy doesnt have a part the closest gun shop probably will. There is also a wide arrangement of pistol grip accessories and pannels that help make the fit of your 1911 that much better. The 1911 is a natural pointer with excellent power, parts availability, easy maintanance and parts replacement if needed.

Now for the original question which one?.....I couldnt tell ya I love them all.:D

I'll vouch for that... I have a Dan Wesson Classic Bobtail Commander and its a well built piece. The trigger is awesome and the gun shoots great. I'll also recommend the Ed Brown Bobtail modification to every 1911 owner, it feels awesome.
