I didn't know people actually thought there was a dollar formula for putting a scope on a rifle. I've heard all these theories over the years but never put much stock in any of them.
Options you want? Clarity you are happy with? Go with it.
I have $200 rifles with $1000 optics, I have one rifle I had built that cost me over 4k and a poopy $400 Chinese hi lux 3-9 on it because it's green (matches the build).
One scope I'll recommend is the Bushnell Match Pro. I have 3 of them, they are awesome. Not really what the op was asking about but I've found them to be very versatile in target shooting and hunting.
