What sling are you using on your M14?

You should have bought a Turner. Damn good sling!

by the sounds of it, yes I should!

I got the SAI sling on though. Had to use a pair of pliers to gently open up the hooks on the frog so that I could feed it through the sling loop in the buttstock.

I have a Spectre three point. Definitely not a fan of three point slings after using this one as they get in the way of mag changes. Two point next time around. The Spectre brand itself seems to be nice kit though.

"...Cheap GI issue one..." That'd be an excessively narrow, thick and stiff leather sling. Isn't much good for lugging the rifle around either.
"...only use it to sling it if..." Learn to use a sling the way J996 is(assuming that's him) in his picture. Gives you a very solid hold on the rifle.
"...with the buckles welded..." Too much when gun tape works best.

So far just the cheapie that came with, but I took off that stupid clip on end and just looped it through. Much quieter. Haven't had a chance to hunt with it yet, we'll see if I need to upgrade after that.

How do you guys with the leather slings get the metal part through the loop on the buttstock?
I just received one from Springfield (The Leather Match for their M1A), and the metal "frog" is too big to fit through the metal sling loop in the butt. So disappointed.

Any ideas or workarounds? Or is this leather sling just going up on the EE?

This happened to me with my 1986 M1A Super. I had an extra USGI loop and it fit fine.

I use the 1907 pattern sling myself. I have a Turner biothane on an AR and a Les Tam custom on the super match. My other M1A has a knock off 1907 and it works. Look up Les Tam for the best leather sling ever made. It took a year from the time I ordered it to when it arrived. Well worth it. The Turner is very good and can be purchased at Creedmore, Brownells or Turner. I also have a few GI web slings, nylon not cotton. They are a good all around sling that is easy to adjust.

Turner 1907 sling.
