Blacktail and a decent one too.

It was shot to far east in the province to be a blacktail.
It is not a mulie as the tail is way too long. The antlers are also branched not forked and the body colour is wrong.
As can be seen on the poll here most hunters seem to agree that is a whitetail.

The young fellows that did shoot it cut a mule deer tag for it and then posted a pic on another forum.
It was shot about 150-200 km east of the recognised easterly limits for blacktail in that part of the province.
In any case even it is a wandering blacktail - pure or hybrid - in my opinion it is not a mule deer.

In the second pic it looks even more like a white-tail.
Antler configuration is most often a good clue but there is enough irregularity in Mule and white-tail antlers that it alone cannot be used to identify them.
Stubblejumper. In the pics you linked the last one looks like a mule deer to me. Are you sure it is a black-tail?

According to the site,the deer is definitely a blacktail.I have only seen a few blacktails in the wild so I did some searching on the net.The more pictures that I saw,the more that I think that this could be a blacktail.The size is the most convincing factor,as it would have to be an extremely small whitetail.Look at the first picture.The front shoulders are at the guys knees,yet the rear is still below his armpit.That is one small deer for the size of the antlers.

Not even a question as to what it is ... look at that flag of tail. I'm an expert on White Tail tails .... as that's all I ever get to see of the buggers !! Their way of waving Bye bye as they disappear into the bush. They really do display that tail like a flag when they go ...

What's too far east? Where was it shot? I don't see anything other than a b/tail in those photos. For anyone who hasn't been around Sitkas or hunted them it would look more like a w/t than a mulie of course. I would like to see the outside of the tail, that would clear things up a bit I bet.
