I have a rem 700 SPS DM. I'm looking to get a new stock for it. I have been looking at Bell + Carlson and Mcmillan. What are the major differences between the 2. The B+C is cheaper is the Mcmillan worth the extra or am I just paying for the name? Do I need an import permit? one place in the states says I do one says I don't?

II have been looking at Bell + Carlson and Mcmillan. What are the major differences between the 2.

With the B&C, they are all the same. When you start changing the Length of Pull and get into colors other than black, they charge you more for the stock.

With the McMillan, you can get many different styles, 4 different fill weights, and multitudes of colors. Well worth the $$ to get a style and LOP that fits you perfectly. And there is no extra charges for colors and different LOP.

Have set up two Rems with HS Precision stocks. Really like 'em! Drop in fit as advertised onto an aluminum bedding block. Very strong, very nicely finished, and relatively reasonably priced. Would still recommend skim bedding the action to take up slack in the lug area. Test first to find out for sure exactly where the action has to be seated so that the bolt release works proper.

For a final touch, I installed a Williams bottom plate and guard. Was a huge improvement over the junk Rem uses.

No disrespect to those that own then, but McMillan is in another complete class of fit and finish, design, and build.
Your buying a lot more than a name.

I have a few older B&C stocks sitting in the closet (one with the recoil area collapsed under recoil) and would not give them away. The new version with the bedding block is OK, but the action should still be bedded to function properly. Even then the stock design is like shooting a club...With a high powered rifle the grip area is too tight and will smash you knuckle into the trigger guard...I still have a chunk of bone floating in my knuckle thanks to B&C....Look at sir_springer's second picture and you will see what I mean.

McMillan not only makes stocks to last a lifetime they have lots of different styles to choose from so you can get the rifle to fit you the way it should. The design you select will be perfectly executed.
Then there is the unconditional lifetime warranty.
I have seen guys fall off a cliff and break one, drive over one with a quad, another with a truck, blow up a rifle, and all got the McMillan treatment.
McMillan replaces it for free...No questions.

Yes, the McMillan is worth the price difference. I own one of each and there is no comparison IMO. The McMillan is lighter, stiffer, stronger... with a lifetime warranty that they back up. If cost is an issue, I'd wait and save up.

What calibers are you talking about? That's got to be some pretty hefty recoil you've got happening there!

Two pics above; first is my 25.06, and second is my nephew's 6mm.
