What striker fired guns look good for 2017?

I'm debating a change in course in my production shooting and possibly looking for something lightweight that will do IPSC, USPSA and 3 gun.

I've shot the shadow 2 quite well, but the thing is heavy. Like really heavy. It's not bad for IPSC but I can't imagine using it for long stages in 3 gun. I also have glocks (17 & 34) that I love to shoot because they are so easy to manipulate, but it is hard to find an accurate load and the trigger isn't the best for IPSC.

Seems to be lots of new guns coming on the market either from 2016 or new this year.

What's caught your eye for competition?

I think the 320 is going to be a sleeper Matt. For playing the games I would even consider the M&P 5" Pro. At some point Optic Division is going to take off so a model that is already for a slide mounted Optic would be a pretty good choice. The ability to co-witness would be imperative. I think it would make for faster shooting. I know I wish my New Edition with the dovetail mount co-witnessed. I may go with a CORE Pro or wait for the 320 with the SIG Optic.

the P10 caught my eye today....not really a fan of the compact, but rumour has it a full size model is coming....and perhaps even a long slide

The gun itself looks pretty good

I am in same situation as Onagoth , my Tanfoglio or shadow feels heavy with 3 gun rig . I am thinking about Grand power X-caliber or Walter Q5

If you're considering a grand power for 3gun, you should check out the q100. It's there striker fire and I heard they have a new nicer trigger in thegen 2s.

What trigger do you have for your Glocks? I have the complete ZEV dropin and it's awesome.

Either that or do more cardio for the Shadow 2. :dancingbanana:

Of course drop ins don't work for IPSC production ... But I have a decent trigger in my g34... I will also be testing out a new load and possibly new barrel

Mostly I am trying to find a middle ground between a striker fired gun for 3 gun, and something similar that can keep up in ipsc prod.... If that's possible

Matt I am curious as to why you don't think your Glock can keep up shooting IPSC Production. Vogel did against the best shooters n IPSC. The Glocks and M&P rule IDPA so there should be no reason why you would not be competitive in IPSC.

The only thing the Glock has against it is the constant 5# trigger pull requirement for one of the three disciplines you intend to shoot. The other two do not have that restriction. The 34 is not legal in IPSC Production but the 17 is. If you like the Glock run the 34 in USPSA and 3 Gun and a 17 in IPSC. You are a recreational shooter so whether you place 4th or 6th at a major IPSC shoot is really moot I would think. I would think reliability is the major factor in choosing your blaster and the Glock has that in spades, along with most modern pistols...that aside. :>)

Lastly, while the Glock family has no appeal to me, I know you like shooting the brand. I doubt there is any other striker fired pistol that brings anymore practical benefit to the parties you intend to attend. If you find one that does buy it otherwise....

ps I have a friend down in Utah that ranks Master in USPSA and IDPA shooting a 34 and plays 3 Gun with the same pistol. Just takes practice, with a drip or two of talent

If I could run a 2.5# trigger in ipsc, this conversation would be moot. But I am also looking at my reloads to see if I can squeak out more accuracy from my Glocks, so far I've bee n disappointed with my 25y results of a rest

But there is so much coming onto the market I think it makes sense to take another look. I'm still torn about it though since the Shadow 2 shoots so well

There is no doubt the Glock and M&P lock ups do not provide the accuracy of the CZ's. My eyes really prevent me commenting on anything past 15 yards using notch and post sights for fine accuracy. I can hit the 8" Down zero on an IDPA target at 25 yards pretty much with all my pistols slow fire but not so much at what passes for Bob speed. :>).

I would think the CZ polymer line is going to be your best bet for fine accuracy, if and when they produce a FS striker. Are there any other that use the Browning lock up and barrel bushing?

If not, I would stick with your Glock platform and learn to shoot it better. (Dig)
