What the heck is this mold for!!?!??!!

I bought a bunch of stuff from a friend and this mold was in there:

I'm guessing it's to make a bullet necklace?
 
I'm gonna stick my neck out and guess you put a steel eyebolt in the mold, then remove it after the casting to make a hollowpoint. Don't know that, though.
 
Perhaps, it's used to make fishing sinkers.

Several years back, a fellow had a plastic bullet mould for sale on eBay.

I had to tell him that was identical to the one I used in Pharmacy school for making suppositories.
 
i would clean up the mold, cast some up with the eyelets, cut off the ring from the eyelet and shoot some nipple bullets :):) if i could fit the whole thing in the gun i would shoot them too for gits and shiggles.
 
LOL! Thanks for the replies fellas. I'm thinking it's likely missing a hollow point attachment. The guy I got it off of used to do a lot of pistol shooting and really not a lot of fishing or craft making. :)

It's a lyman mold for either 357 or 38 special.

I don't have the pin or either caliber hand gun to shoot but would anyone have a suggestion on how to clean up a mold like this? I may start a new thread on that... or do a search.

For cleaning you need mineral spirits and fine wsteel wool. The cavities look like they might be pitted - depending on the depth of the pits the mould may or may not be useful again. If you polish the cavities, go slowly and try to stay away from the edges.
 
Kind of an odd way to do hollow points but who knows what HP, Ideal, Miha Prevac and small long gone companies might have tried years ago. Clean it up and like other said look for any type of markings.
 
I think I might know what your mold is used for.

You know those bull nuts that all the fashionable rednecks had hanging on the trailer hitches of their pickups a couple years ago? Well your mold is perfect for making a set of nuts for a Smart Car.

Lol! That would look hilarious! I might just have to try and cast a "pair". ;)

I'll put them up on etsy.
