What the heck is with the CGN Search Function????

Alright,

I've posed this question before and I've always received the same answer...go read the FAQ's. Well, I've read all the FAQ's and they all say the same thing about the search function, "make sure all your options are selected...so on and so forth.

I have tried everything under the sun it seems with the search function and still cannot get it to work. I've even tried searching posts that I know are on the sight because I would copy and paste their title into the search area and select the correct forum to search and still it cannot find that post.

From the posts that I've read, many, many people seem to be having some of the same issues. Maybe we're all just a bunch of "dumb newbs" but maybe CGN should make a more user friendly sight or at least

Can anyone give me some insight on this search function that is not already on all the FAQ's?
 
Under the Search by Keyword box are a few other boxes, one of those boxes is labeled "Find Posts from". Default time is "1 week ago" but you need to change that in the drop down box to whatever time you want up to "36 months ago".

I personally don't like the feature but it is what it is and it's not going away anytime soon I don;t think.

If you have already done this and it's still not working for you then maybe you need to be more specific in explaining exactly what isn't working for you or what your results is so that others may be of more assistance.

YUP!! Why the heck can't we search OT? I just spent 1/2 hour going page by page trying to find a thread....and I posted in it! The search function doesn't work in OT, the "Find members posts" wont show OT posts......hell, I'd like to see what we had discussed a few months ago re: plumbing, but going page by page to try and find it is a PITA

Can you post the string that you are having problem finding - maybe I could help ?
 
Yep, as long as you remember to change the default time frame, it should work fine. At least it always has for me so far. Never tried to search the OT, not sure about that issue.
 
So I've tried searching a whole bunch of different keywords it seems that I am able to search for certain things and it will work OK (for example, I searched for this thread to see if it would come up and it did). However, I typed into the keywords seach box "CZ75B" and every time it comes up with "sorry no matches found", I also tried "CZ75**" and that didn't work either. But when I type in "CZ**" it will come up with results.

I search by CZ75 and got a lot results.

Problem is, people type in CZ75 B with a space in between, or CZ 75B -.

Searching is not a mechanical process- it is an algorithm, and sometimes you need to work with it.
