About what I paid for it. What's the 76 stamp under the barrel signify?

My guess would be a batch number of some kind. Not a true serial number in the sense that the numbers were probably repeated every few months or years

The ELG is a Liege Proof House mark. The little symbol under the ELG is possibly either a crown or a star. The 76, I suspect, is the proofer's mark..

It is a star. The crown when it occurs, is above the oval and occurs after 1893

Neat! Any idea the range prior to 1893? Like, the earliest these were made?

Percussion ignition became common after about 1830. It was invented earlier but took a while to be perfected and catch on. I would suspect that after 1865 there were relatively few muzzle loaders being built other than trade guns for Canada and Africa and similar. By then cartridge guns were being introduced.

It looks like a muff pistol, except for the trigger and guard. Muffs were a sort'a glove that women placed their hands inside while traveling in a buggie or a coach, train, etc durring cold days. Some kept a pistol inside their glove when traveling for protection. I'm guessing they were very common back in the mid 1800's?
