What the #### kind of refurb SKS is this?

I bought mine back in 2011. It was perfect blued and numbers matching, I gave it away as part of a trade and have been hopelessly looking to replace it since. Even the magazine had that nice pin vs the ugly botched job they all seem to have now.

As others have stated its a Molot import/export mark. Looks like it has a laminated stock. Don't let the powdercoating put you off, I am sure it will shoot fine.

tootall, from what I understand it's original MG converted to semi auto. There are videos of other "hunting" carbines like PPSH and AKM going FA due to poor conversion so yea, I'm pretty sure it could be brought back to it's original state.

Robert Nicholson, this is actually British design. Thing was extensively used from end of 19th to middle of 20th century all over the world.

Thanks VuDu666.
To add a bit to what you said to Robert N., the basic design was invented by Sir Hiram Maxim.
Maixim's design was sold and used around the world as you note.
In WWI, the British used an improved version, the Vickers, the Germans had their Maxim, the MG-08, and the Russians used the PM-1910.
So all sides were equipped with a Maxim design.

The PM-1910 (Pulemyot Maxima) in my avatar is mounted on the intriguing Sokolov wheeled mount.
It also has the WW2 "snow cap" on top of the water jacket, so that handfuls of snow could be dumped in for cooling.

Here's one in the US somewhere. I was told be CGN Milsurp expert Smellie that the reason this one is choking is because the "helper" is not helping by pulling on the belt.

That was a sight we don't get to see very often! ^^ The rate of fire was slower than I expected, perhaps only 300 per minute?
Would a helper have to be constantly pulling to get the gun to auto fire?

tootall, ammo, overheating, dirty muzzle break (one of biggest problems). Many different reasons for it to choke. One in the video uses metal links, very uncommon. Belts usually were made from soft burlap type of material. Water could also be replaced with urine. It was common practice to open the heat shield and piss in it.

Not really, there is a problem with that MG. Of course, loader had to be present to assist the gunner but he didn't have to pull on the belt like that.

From what Smellie said, it is the pulling on the belt that causes the problem.
It is designed to run without any assistance.

I getcha! Pulling on the belt like he was doing, was "Not Helping"! Helpers are supposed to lift the belt up and just guide it, right?

Pretty much. Their job is to assist the gunner. Load the weapon, help with changing barrels, clearing serious FTF's, anything to do with maintenance and transportation.

tootal, l've shot that thing. Live and blanks. It'd choke on blanks once every 20 rounds or so. 148 grain army ammo - no problem whatsoever as long as muzzle break is clean and it's oiled with enough water.
