What the....? No thread on the big Wolverine surplus sale?

Picked up the Belgian SAFN49 in .30-06 today to complement my sniper set-up. From the look of the two different pictures available, it seems to be in much better than "good" condition. From what I can tell, the metal in the pictures seems to be almost mint! This seems to follow buffdog's swedish carbine clean-up pictures where it turns out very, very nice but was listed as scruffy!? If this is in anywhere near very good to excellent, the $750.00 spent will be a joke in a few years, if not now!!

I will post pics and full assessment when I get her.

Cheers,

Ian

I just got a deal on #84, listed as a Mauser 1924 but actually a Spanish Civil War issued scrubbed receiver wz.29, and #87, an unrefurbed Romanian VZ-24 with an unground King Carol crest. How did everybody miss that?! Unground King Carol crests are rare enough that the latest edition of Ball's Mauser Military Rifles of the World has a picture of a partially ground one.

I was sure #84 was a SCW Wz.29, but I have one already so I wasn't too concerned. You beat me to it only because I'm at work - on break now. Did you pay the asking price for each or did you get a better deal?

i was thinking about #84, i thought it might be a german modified VZ24.

I got a better deal on both. Honestly I was really hoping for an unscrubbed wz.29, but at the price I got for both it was worth it. Truthfully it was the VZ-24 I really wanted anyways.

That's great, congratulations. :)

Would you mind posting a photo or two?

I'll definately post pictures of everything once they arrive (cheaper and easier to get them shipped instead of driving to Virden, although the waiting sucks), but beyond the ones in the thread this is the only picture I really needed to see:

It is a SCW wz.29. I called and asked about it. Bolt is M/M, and it doesn't look Polish. It is missing the front sight blade, so if someone snaps it up, let me know I have a spare :)

EDIT: I guess I should have kept reading..... Nyles PM Sent.

Congrats on a Rumanian Vz 24. And unscrubbed too! Only ones I've heard of being offered are Russian or Rumanian refurbs with the crests removed. That's a big time score! February has been very good for you Nyles.

I spent the weekend trying to get a friend to call for the Wz 29 but he is holding out for one with Polish markings. He found one and has an agreement to purchase but tells me the negotiations have been going on for two years - personally I think he should have called Wolverine.

I bought #88 the refurbed VZ24 as i wanted a shooter. Darn made wrong decision again.

Are you sure its refurbed? Sounds like there were a few milsurps sold that were original and matching.

Most that I was interested in were sold on Thursday in the first few hours.

Having the sale open on a weekday really screwed me up as I was at work. No way I could hang out on a phone. By the time I was able to view the list with descriptions and prices, they were sold.

It looked like it in the photo?

I went and looked back at #88. Its hard to tell from that photo if its a refurb but the bolt looks dark instead of in the white as I believe the original Czech bolts are supposed to look. Then again maybe its the lighting, maybe grime. Only time will tell. Here's hoping its not a refurb.

Did Wolverine say anything to you about it being a refurb?

No I just assumed it was, but it sure looks like refurb to me which is what I wanted as it will be used as a shooter. Refurbs are ok in my book.

No doubt, I have a RC ce 41 and a tgf 50. I wouldn't mind a nice Vz 24. But I'm holding out for a non refurb. I spent my discretionary milsurps money on other items.

Yeah, February has definately been a good month for the collection, but I have a feeling I'm going to be eating alot of ramen noodles in March!
