You beat me to it. My thoughts exactly, but I'd pass on the 300 winny for myself, to many here already. If a guy were to make that Sako a switch for the 308 Norma, and 358 Norma, that would be so sweet, and to toss in the 257 Weatherby......uh oh, I think I have a new goal in life:D Something just clicked, I think i NEED a rifle like that.;)

Well, when I owned it I had plans for a 358 Norma; although I was also temped with an STA.

I don't think you can get that action to work with a Dakota cartridge without a great deal of work and expense. Even then, it would be a roll of the dice. I looked into 330 Dakota and it just seemed too difficult.

338 Win mag necked down to .284.

I always thought the 7-338 Win Mag would make a great cartridge...kind of cool and rare!

Another idea is to neck the 264 Win mag up to 7mm... the 7-264 Win mag would be great too!

Lots of cool wildcats to be built if a guy has the time and money!

So there are my 2 picks:

1. 7-338 Win Mag

2. 7-264 Win Mag

DANG IT 280...YOU'RE A GENIUS....I just checked and I have both of those reamers right here...don't know why I didn't think of those two...I guess it takes a real 7mm guy to come up with a plan like that...and I thought I had a good idea when I was going to do a .284/257Wtby...I like your picks better...but which one to go with?....

it really doesnt matter what cartridge you go with, that is not important. What *is* important, is mounting some old Burris scope bases so old they've turned purple, some silver Leupold rings scabbed off the EE, and a 70s vintage 3-9x40 Vari X II gloss scope. Slap a leather sling with a stiched moose head on that Sako and you're set :D
