Hey everyone. Been scanning all over the dealer pages here and am finding it very hard to decide on a rifle

I'm looking to spend 1500 or less.

It can be restricted or non. As it will just be used for plinking away at the range.

Preferably in 5.56 nato or 7.62mm something I can throw some cheap ammo in and go.

Any suggestions on a good first rifle?

Any number of AR15-pattern rifles fit your requirements. Lots of decent ones on the EE; I'd personally avoid NEA. Otherwise, as bfiles says, a Vz58. I'd suggest either an 11" or a non-restricted 858 if you go that route.

Damn that Daniels defense looks like a nice gun. Any idea what is normally packaged with them?

I have peaked at the csa vz-58 as well looks like a fun gun too..

Hmm decisions

bro just get the dd before I take out my credit card and get it for myself
the trigger isnt that great but you can get an alg trigger for damn cheap.

Well I own a cz858 and I own a bunch of quality ARs, and a bunch of other high quality guns, if restricted doesnt matter to you, yes get the mk18
youll get an AR eventually, this one is a good deal, but do as you want, its not my cash.

But it's a Donald Duck! (DD) ;)

The thing I'm wondering about is: 5.56 or 7.62xsomething for plinking? Not economical, I hope the OP has a solid ammo budget or it's going to be a nice $1500 locker queen. Which is why I'd suggest 7.62x39 which means the vz58/cz858. Shoots twice as much as the 5.56 and three times as much as the .308 for the same ammo cost.

Yeah it would be just a more fun range gun intead of a .22 lol plinking may not have been the correct term. Was thinking buy a crate of surplus ammo and I'd be set for a while though I'm sure that in turn means more in depth cleaning each time i go shooting

.25c a round for cheap 7.62x39.

And the color on the front of that DD is fugly!

All that said, if you do your shooting at the range, you'll end up with and AR at some point.

This can be looked at in two different ways:
1) Im gonna end up with an AR at some point, might as well get it now.
2) Im gonna end up with an AR at some point, so I might as well get something different now, 'cause I know I'll get an AR down the road, while if I just get the AR now I may become a slave to the AR overlords and be forbidden to buy anything else.... So maybe I'll try something else first.

Mike's right you can't go wrong with a DD they are that good of a deal, however some models do not come with sites which would add another $100+.

Saying that if your budget is $1,500 all in which is to include all needed items and a crate of ammo., there are other alternatives. A Smith & Wesson MP15 for around $850 could get you started on an AR (there are many other AR's, but they cost more unless you start to think about Norinco and I never suggest trying that;)) while still leaving some change for a bunch of ammo. and some enjoyable #10 Rd. mags (or Beowolfs)...

If the Non-Restricted status is not needed an AR is going to be your best bet for getting a great shooting rifle that has more aftermarket support then any other rifle available.

While the CZ's are a decent rifle and are available in .223 and 7.62x39, why not go for an AR in .223 or 7.62x39 instead if NR is a non-issue.

AR's generally offer better accuracy, reliability and light weight/maneuverability over just about any other rifle available and if they were NR in Canada, they would be the go to rifle for just about everyone in the know.

My .02 cents, cheers D.

You can find good AR deals if you keep your eyes open. I got my sig on the EE.

Sig m400 enhanced with only 60 rounds fired (900$ shipped on the EE)
MI SS 15" keymod Handguard 350$
Low profile gas block 50$
Bushnell trs25 (not the best but it will get you started)

All together about 1500$. Sure it's no DD but sig ain't Norinco either.
