What to buy: Enfield, Enfield, or Enfield?

You are not the first person to say that, but as it happens it's just fine. I have medium height scope mounts on it so I could bring it down more if I wanted, but it's comfortable as it is. I can shoot 4" groups at 400 yds with this rifle.It is substantially tweaked though. :)

Sounds plenty accurate...
What did they use for a cheekrest on P14 snipers(if such existed)? Maybe a cheekrest would work for this rifle?
 
They were used as snipers in the first and second world war but I don't know whether they had cheek pieces fitted or not. I would imagine it would be a simple matter to make a No4 style cheek rest if desired, but as I said it's fine like it is. If you look at the pivot screw for the standard rear sight you will be able to see that when installed the flip up sight iwould be no higher than the scope.
 
Cheek pieces were used on the No3 Rifle but only Winchester were used and they were fitted with the Fine adjustable rear sight. I was offered a sight for my eddystone but I turned it down. I should have bought it and sold it on.

Yes you are 100% correct I was thinking of the Enfield experimental No3:

I've got a bubba'd brit and australian No 1. Surprisingly, the brit has a dark bore, but is much more accurate. I'd say colour of the bore isn't as much of an indicator as pitting and how defined the lands and grooves are. If you're looking, try to buy in as original and best condition as possible, I bought two bubbas instead of going after one nice original, and I kindof regret it. (but only kindof, would take a lot to get me to let them go)
 
No1 Mk111 werent FTR'd in the same way and werent stamped. They were rebuilt as necessary and a lot went through WRS (weedon repair standard) between the war. Indians are scrubbed of markings during rebuilds as a guide but Aussie ones tend to have furniture issues with the coachwood stocks. I'd go either for an Enfield factory pre WW1 or BSA pre WW2 as you will possibly get a model pre*. Anyway you'll fall in love with whatever you find!
