I know nothing about pistols except for the classics. So I am in need of advise for purchasing my first pistol.

Criteria:

Restricted (obviously)
9mm
Single stack mag (slim grip)
Under $1000

Thanks

Could be wrong, someone correct me. Aren't most single stack 9mm's the pocket sized handguns / prohib in canada?

There is a new pistol in 9mm, single stack, not a pocket pistol. Called a 1911. I think it will catch on.

most :p is there much of a selection other than that? (not counting ones with barrels sticking out to be Canada compliant)

but in all seriousness, small hands? I've got a CZ75 and never felt the grip was where I'd start to say were too big.

Sig Sauer P320 Semi-Auto Pistol, 9mm, 4.7" Barrel, 10 Round, SIGLITE Night Sights, Polymer Grips, Black Steel, Nitron Coated - $819 plus tax

Smith and Wesson M&P 9mm might work for you. I don't know if they are single stack but you can buy a range kit with the gun, magazine loader, 2 magazines, case, holster and it comes with different thickness hand grips so if you have small hands it may work for you. I bought the 40 cal version and love it. The magazine release can also be switched to left handed which is why I bought it. All for about $800

Sti Spartan..or Ranger...if it's 1911 you're after...really..there's lots of choice in your budget...enjoy the search..

Your criteria really point to a 1911/9mm. If this is what you want, lots of choices for under $1,000.00. CGN'ers have their favourite brands. Search for the many 1911 threads.

If a 1911 is not what you wanted, lots of pistols today offer different grip or back strap sizes to fit most hand sizes. Make sure to visit a dealer or range and handle different pistols. Also try to decide the type of pistol you want. Do you want hammer or striker fired, steel or polymer, SA, SA/DA, DAO. Again, lots of choices for under $1,000.00.

Buy affordable. I spent alot of hours watching youtube, paying to shoot at the range, reading blogs and talking to friends before I bought my first hand gun. I was positive that I wanted a Sig P226 mk25. But after owning a Smith and Wesson Vtac M&P as well as a Sphinx SD compact And shooting sig and beretta along the way I eventually settled for the beretta and sold the rest. My piont is that as you progress as a shooter your tastes and requirments will change so I suggest buying somthing affordable and using it to get the basic tequnique before buying one of the dynasy guns. Use the savings to buy the ammo.

If I could do it over again, I'd buy a CZ Shadow from the start. But if your looking for a small single stack, maybe a Boberg? Or a Sig P239 Tactical. It'd be over $1,000 though unless you could find it used. But in that criteria its slim pickings unless your okay with a 1911 platform.

I have a STI Trojan Really nicest and well equiped for around 1000$ I also have a CZ75 that feels like a 1911 but double stack I have medium size hand

Send me a private msg I have a CZ75B in 40 cal or a Springfield XD9 that is very confortable as well very good grip hurry before its gone

First post here. I'll have to agree with the P320 as well. Had mine since October and absolutely love it. Feels good in the hands, stupid simple design, easy to maintain and just fun to shoot. The grip modules are cheap so the investment is low if you need to get a better fit.
