What to buy... What to buy

That’s me as well. I like to restore them back to my ideal specs...but after that, any marks are mine and I don’t sweat them. Weird I suppose.

Dilly, glad to hear I'm not the only one. LOL

Count me in as part of the group. I spent countless hours refinishing my first SxS and scratched it in heavy bush the first time I took it out. Also got my first Ruffed Grouse with it that day. I already have a couple bruises on my new o/u after only 15 hours of field use. The memories and camaraderie far outweigh the bumps and bruises.

Hahahaha! I laughed when I read this. I get it. Those who know me and my guns know that I have the OCD thing about them for a while but it's not permanent for me.

I buy a gun and it's not right until I have it EXACTLY as I want it. Bluing perfect, wood perfect, bores blinding..... every imperfection gone! But for some strange reason, once it get there, I'm done. I can then take it hunting and get the odd nick or scratch and I couldn't care less. I maintain them properly but am no longer bothered by the slight imperfections that come with use. I guess they need to be my imperfections. LOL

I am the same way in reverse. I just can’t bring myself to refinish Gramp’s guns because all the imperfections got there on his hunts and I listened to those stories with utter fascination paying more attention to them than anything I ever listened to in my life.

Use the vintage SxS's every season, but choose very carefully where and when. Just about snapped the 1901 'Elsie' in half one day and that really put the fear in me.To the OP, depends on how you like your shotguns when they are parked at home. If it bothers you to see the inevitable wear and tear then buy one specifically for ducks. If not bang away and expect your guns to show it.
