I have been thinking about buying a bolt action long range rifle. I was thinking of .223 or .308. I would also like to have a removable box mag as well. I thought about the Savage 10FP, but not sure if the mag is detachable, or internal. I like the idea of having a detachable mag. Anyone have any suggestions on brands, or cal? I will be shooting 300-800, and maybe some hunting with it. Reason for the .223 or .308 is price, not to mention I already reload for .223. Oh if you know of a scope to mount on, let me know which brand and power to mount as well! Thanks! :D

You can get aftermarket mag kits for the 700P.

Vbull makes one.
They require some gunsmithing in order to fit but they are a high quality product.

HS Precision also makes a drop in plate with detachable mag. No smithing required. IMO, the HS 4rd single stack mag that comes with it is a bit wonky, so, if you go with an HS, get the 10rd mag for it.

If you are shooting at mid to long range targets do you need a magazine? Buy the one that you will shoot the most. Mags don't make you shoot better. Forget the glitz and go for stuff that will help you shoot well. Go to the type of shoot that you are interested in and see what is winning. If you are in southern ON check out the ORA web site. If you are elsewhere tell us and maybe we can direct you to a match close by. You will learn far more at a match than you ever will at a computer, the difference is talkers and doers!
