I am finally going to take the plunge and buy an AR.......:runaway:My biggest problem is,which brand to buy.I am dizzy with manufactures MIL specs,we are the leaders,go no where else, buy the best ads!!.

I want a good quality upper and lower...A 16inch or longer barrel,a solid butt stock,with quality internal componets,and a fixed front...removable rear sight/handle.

What is with the auto bolt?....

I wanted to buy a DALASK....BUT....it sounds like this dude is a weiner and sells s**t!!(over seas parts??)...What gives?(I like Canadian built)

I thought ALL AR's were mill spec(havent read a manufactures specs yet the said they were not)yet people talk about "soft '' recievers, too much coating(can't figure that one out)..and "the nothing fits" gun....BLA....BLA...BLA!!

I am starting to wonder that all the manufactures do not know how to build a rifle or the people that own them don't know what they are doing!!

Help me see the light and point me in the direction of enlightenment:D

I can't give you firsthand experience on many brands but I do like Colts. From observing guys at the range with new AR's and from reading some the posts here, these days when buying new its usually comes down to just preference and price. The Dlask rifles I've seen and handled appear well built to me (but like I said before, I don't have a lot of experience here) and have some (cosmetic) design features you can't get elsewhere but I was told that sometimes they needed to be broken in before they worked smoothly, due to precise machining tolerances (not a bad thing but something to be aware of).

Your desired configuration sounds like a good place to start, most will tell you a 16" barrel is good all-around performer and defiantly buy a flat-top upper these days. Advantages of the different gas system lengths is something I'm trying to figure out now so maybe someone else can help out with that. If you stick with a carbine length you will have the best selection of accessories and rail systems.

The best thing I can tell you is to buy from where you feel comfortable with the level of customer service. In the past two months, I've been searching for a specific AR barrel configuration and my emails to places all across Canada have not as of yet been answered (with the exception of Questar - nice, polite message) but that's kinda the norm these days (especially here up north due to lack of competition) but I guess they are flooded with loads of pointless email that never results in a sale.

I think that guys that want the auto-bolt find the extra weight works better with the shorter barrels, not sure about that one.

One thing remains consistent in my reading of these Black Rifle forums... and it's a short list of manufacturers who are always highly regarded. LMT, RRA, STAG, Colt, Armalite, Bushmaster, DPMS. I myself have had RRA and DPMS AR15s and various uppers/lowers and never experienced any problems. They've also mixed and matched quite well. Currently I have a DPMS lower with a 11.5" basic keyhole marked upper and they work wonderfully together. I also mount a 24" RRA upper on the DPMS lower once in a while and that also functions flawlessly. No problems with fit or finish of any kind.
