What to do with a 'coon?

You must get rid of them with extreme prejudice, they will colonize your entire barn to the point where it would be easier to move.Seriously do it now.Today !!!Do not relocate they will only return with their friends.Death is the only option. You have been warned!!!!

If you use a live trap, do not use cat food or sardines. The smell is so strong you will end up drawing in animals that wern't there in the first place. A boiled or pickled egg will work wonders without inviting new guests from around the neighbourhood.
Best to dispatch it once you catch it.
Releasing an animal far away is illegal in some places, and for good reason. Coons can carry distemper, if you transport that animal you may be transporting a disease that mother nature wasn't ready for, elsewhere. Also, they are territorial, so chances are when it is released thee will be a fight that will result in the death of something anyways.
I have been doing nuisance wildlife control for over 15 years, full time.

My grandad used to trap skunks.
His leghold traps were secured to the end of a long heavy pole and baited with some fish scraps.
He drowned 'em.

Put on a tux and act like a pengwin.
Then you can sneak up on the summabeeatches.
Kerpow.......kill'um fooking dead.

Sorry Mr. c-fbmi, I find this thread totally amusing.
Gett'n noogied by a coon.........................................

Give the wife a .22

Given that this is wife #4 I would suggest that arming them might prove harmful to dear old Douglas.

Another vote for live-trap. If you catch something unintended you can release it. If it's the coon that you're after you can decide what to do once you have him in the box. Poison is an indiscriminate and cruel killer. Are we not ethical and compassionate people who preach the importance of shot placement and adequate caliber selection in our hunting discussions? Seems those ethics should carry over to this scenario as well.

Lol colonize...

Actually come to think of it, last time I killed one he was in the process of building a granary and a new town hall.

As a kid, I trapped lots of raccoons in my muskrat and mink traps. I always set the traps through the back of a 5gal can. Baited with cat food or fish guts, depending on what I had available. I would set the bait in the can at the back of the bucket and set the trap about 6" from the back of the can. They would have to go in and get the food, hit the trap. Best part when it was a raccoon, or bobcat, was, they couldn't move around much. The trap was nailed to a tree or a boulder and the bucket was fastened to the ground. The animal had no room to back out of the can, and, although an animal will apparently chew off a leg, I never lost one, although, one cat somehow was able to turn completely around and hiss at me before I stopped shaking long enough to shoot it. LOL!

Other try, warfarin and cherry cake mix in equal amounts, along with a dish of water. It will love the mix, drink the water, go off and die. Keep it outdoors and out of the way of other animals. Cats tend to leave this along, but not dogs.

Wow, you think live trapping one and finishing it with a 22 is illegal but the above is your advice.

OP,live trap is the way to go if you have access to one, a well set conibear of the proper size will also result in a quick kill if you have access to one.
