So I have a model 100 in 308...my Dad bought it for me when I was 16. I have hardly used it. I've tried to sell it but when the time comes to do the deal I just can't let it go. It's in nice shape but it's just not my kinda gun anymore. I don't think it will ever be worth more then we paid for it, as 100s in 308 aren't exactly rare. I have become quite fond of my 385 BLR but might be selling it to finance another project so I was thinking about making the 100 into a 358. My understanding is that the model 88 came in 358 and I was wondering if a 88 barrel would fit easily in a 100 receiver. I wonder if the 100 action would handle the 358 round? Any thoughts? thanks

If my father had bought me a rifle when I was 16, I'd leave it just as he gave it too me. Sentimental reasons, I guess.

I'd be very surprised if you are able to locate one of those 88 bbls and if you were, the price would be scary high. Cheaper to have a smith do a new bbl for you and you could keep the rest of the gun original, incl the orig bbl.

Yes. That's a fairly common conversion for the 100. Most folk get it rebored.

The 88 barrel doesn't have gas ports so won't work.
Best is to bore out 308barrel to 358 cal.
88 man should chime in, he has done just such a mod.
Like to do it myself but can't justify the $$ as the 308 kills deer just fine.

Here I am !!!
I had one done in .358 and love it.The action will hold it just fine.I don't reload so know nothing about putting hot loads through it but factory loads are fine.A guy in my deer camp reloads and loaded up some shells for me and they work fine and I know there a little hotter than factory.
You wont be dissappionted if you have it done to .358 !!!

hey 88 man...

did you have it done with a model 88 barrel? Or did you just get a new barrel? I guess I could look at having the original barrel bored out to 35. Who could do that? thanks
