What to do with broken scopes

Over time I have collected 3 scopes that are no longer suitable for use. Most of them saw some kind of impact damage. 2 of them are bushnell, and I don't think Bushnell warranty covers user induced damage. The other is a red field old enough I don't think therr's any warranty anymore.

So the question is anything I can do with these scopes other than throwing them into the garbage? How much does repair usually cost or it's totally not worth it?

For most of August, Bass Pro will accept old scopes as trade-ins, valued at $100 against a new scope.
Only applies to a select few scopes though — check their flyer.

I brought one in that I bent the tube on so no warranty. They did offer me a replacement at a gtreat discount and said they would use my scope for parts as the model i had was discontinued so that worked well for me

Send Bushnell and Bausch&Lomb scopes to Bushnell with the form you can download from their website, asking if they can be repaired. If they are covered by warranty they will try to repair them or will offer as a replacement a current model they think appropriate. If not covered by warranty they will quote for possible repair or tell you nothing can be done. Worst case you may be out the cost of one way shipping and they may harvest some spare parts to fix the next one that comes in, but you might get a pleasant surprise.

Like others suggested, I would see if the manufacturers will do anything first - if not, you could send them to Trace scope repair in Alberta.

What do to with broken scopes reminds me of a prank I pulled in 1970...

I was working at Barotto Sports in the Adams building on 4th Street in Calgary. We had ordered in a Kahles rifle scope for Eddie Mech. Eddie was really looking forward to it and was on his way to pick it up. The counter had a soft top and I had the scope out of the box and was looking at it when Eddie came in. He looked at it and was excited and ready to mount it on his coyote rifle and try it out. I said 'Here let me put it back in the box." Robin then said something and Eddie turned towards him. I reached under the counter and picked up a broken scope... then as Eddie turned back I dropped the broken scope on the concrete floor. Eddie's eyes got really big and a look of shock on his face. We all started to laugh... when he realized what had happened he laughed and cussed us out too. At that time Eddie was just getting into stock work... he continued with it and was doing some very nice work for a long time.

If you can't get warranty, trade in, etc. get a mannequin head and see if you can recreate the sniper shot from Saving Private Ryan.

I have a old Redfield that I was given because it had been under water in the Ocean.
I was told that Redfield would fix it, so I sent to them and they did for the cost of postage!
I still have it and that was forty years ago

Theres been about 4 companies called Redfield and only thing they shared was the name. They won’t fix each others scopes.

I like that story!! Been complicit in a few situations like that. Really fun with people who are their own worst enemies, who wind themselves up. And, I remember that store, used to live 3 or 4 blocks from it.

In case you are going to toss the bushnell scope;
I have one on a used gun I bought that has only one turret cover so I'd take it off your hands for the cap.

Bushnell are easy to do business with. Last year i sended them one red dot Tr 25, one 10X40 scope and one 6X18 scope. All had descrepency. Theys sended me 3 new replacement free of charge. Cool.
