What do most people do (or rather, what is recommended) with the front swivel on their fibreglass stock when painting? Mask it off, remove it, or just paint it the same colour as the stock?

I saw the post on reinstalling the swivel.... but how do I remove the rivets if I want to repark the swivel?

Thanks!!

Most people tape them over... In the case of my synthetic USGI stock, it didn't have a front sling loop, so I harvested the one from the crappy Norinco wood stock... Careful re-assembly with button head bolts and nuts allowed me to re-attach it to the USGI stock once painted...

On my wife's, we painted it...

Hungry is right, the M14's are great for their "tinker" factor...

Cheers

To remove the rivets, I drilled them from the inside. Then it got really involved. :D

I milled a 1/2" wide slot centered on the old rivet holes. Shaped a 1/2" by 1/8" stainless steel bar to fit, then drilled and tapped the bar for a pair of machine screws. I sealed the bar in with Devcon putty. Lots of jacking around but It makes me happy. Isn't that what it's all about? :D
