What to expect for accuracy.

I just bought a Remington 700 SPS in 243 win. What kind of accuracy can I expect from this rifle? I plan to shoot light bullets for coyotes and wolves.
Well I got to shoot the rifle this weekend. I shot 3 different types of factory ammo through it and the average for all 3 loads was .88" for 3 shots at 100 yards. The best load was the Hornady 58gr V-Max, it averaged .75". The next best was Barnes Vortex 80gr TTSX with an average of .88". And finally Winchester 55gr Ballistic Silver Tip at .99". I will now start on some handloads.

The short answer is what kind of accuracy you are referring to. Is it real life accuracy at the range or in the field, or is it accuracy on the computer keyboard.
Big difference.

Well, these results speak for themselves. And that's factory ammo. With some tailored handloads, then it'll get even better.

I owned an SPS DM in 30-06 that also shot MOA or better.

I currently own 3 M700 Mtn rifles that shoot MOA or better.

I also have my Father's M700 BDL Heavy Barrel in .222 that shoot's 0.5" groups all day [great fun on the gopher patch].

I'd take a Remington over a Salvage any day. :stirthepot2:

I owned a Model 111 without the accutrigger. I sold it promptly.
I still own a little .22LR MkII. But that little gopher getter isn't going anywhere any time soon.

If I get better then 1.5-2 MOA with factory ammo and a stock gun for bush pushing, I am usually happy. If it is worse, it will not stay in my safe long. If it is a lot better, I start handloading for it.

This does not apply to my target rifles though... 3/4 MOA is what I strive for with all of them.

No they dont Archie.....only certain weatherbys and coopers :)

Oh ####...and this whole time I've only been taking pictures of awesome groups and discounting poorer ones by labelling them.
