Recently picked up a m305 shorty. I have some 150 gr Sierra round nose game kings. Will these feed reliably? What's a healthy diet for this beast, I have imr 4064 and 3031 as well as some cfe223 and h4895.
The bullets should work fine. I'd start with H4895 as that's the perfect burn rate for these rifles. http://www.zediker.com/downloads/m14.html
This is the best info I've found for loading these beasts. Good luck!
I've tried most of the medium burner's in my Garand and 305 (both 4895's,Varget, 748, R-15 and 4064) Best accuracy in both with 4064 with mid range loads. About 1500 through the 305 without a hiccup. Bullet was Hornady 150 gr bulk FMJ's. If there is a downside it is that 4064 is a long stick powder that may not meter smoothly. Not bad in my old Lyman 55.
You want something that will closely replicate the pressure curve of "milspec" 150gr FMJ ammo that the rifle was designed for. 4895 is your best bet in that regard. Just don't try to make it into something that ti isn't.
I agree with Pr589 (hey Paul, how goes?) I'm on my third M14 clone now and all of them really like the IMR 3031 with either 39.3 or 39.7 grains with the 168 grain Hornady match bullet.
