As other pointed out, you can never tell the condition of the scope until your run it through its paces on the range. A scuffed up scope has as a good a chance of holding zero compared to new looking one if going by just looks.
Always check the scope manufacturer's warranty. Some brands will not honour grey market scopes ie scopes purchased outside of their original exported country. I believe Nightforce and Trijicon are two that this warranty policy applies to.
