i was out in the woods the other day .i was constantly taking ticks of my pants and jacket .i was wondering what a person could use to put on clothing so the ticks dont have chance to cling on .ideas please

Permethrin does repel them in a way. If they crawl on treated clothing, they drop off or bugger off if they can. If they can't make a run for it, they will be dead or near so if exposed for 10-20 minutes. Even if they aren't dead, they'll be doing headstands or rolling over and are no longer a concern.

As skhunter mentions, it's not applied like deet or bug spray. It needs to go on your clothing.

We have lots of ticks in my area. I use any bug repellant with a high Deet content, but it is not fool proof. And try to spray 3 dogs who see the can and head the other way, plus a wife that will not put chemicals on her. So ticks end up in the house. Thorough body checks morning and night plus checking myself during the day I have found to be very effective. They are attracted to dark colours. I will take 10 times the ticks off our black dog as opposed to the light blond lab and the little shiatsu. We only seem to be bothered by them for 5-6 weeks.

They're bad where we hunt. Deer ticks. Really bad. Area 67.
I try to wear lighter pants so the black ticks with the red ass contrasts and I'm constantly checking myself.
Harder when deer hunting but all other times use a permethrin spray. Dedicate one pair of pants to being sprayed. Even that won't stop them.
Only way to keep the dogs from getting hundreds is to not bring them.
Good luck.

Permethrin x2. If you are in the US, check out the repellent sprays, some will have it. As an alternative, call the local UFA or similar supply shop. They will have large containers. Remember - treat fabrics only, don't apply to your skin.

I believe the active ingredient in Vet supplied, and store bought tick treatments for your dog is Permethrin. This stuff works well on the creepys, but is deadly on felines; and hard on fish/water, be aware.

I have come in from cutting wood in long pants high socks and high top leather boots, stripped down an climbed in the shower only find a couple of the buggers attached to my thigh when I was drying off. Have also found them at times in our bed. Woke up one night as my nose was itchy, only to find a tick stuck on the end of my nose. They come in on the dogs and go from there. Even though we check the dogs daily you never find them all. all our ticks appear to be wood ticks. Haven't found as deer tick "yet". I keep several rolls of masking tape handy and when I find one I stick him on the tape and then fold it over on him and seal him shut.

Start using k9 advantix 2 on your dogs and you will never find a tick on them. I'm in the heart of tickets country and don't really worry about them deep woods and thermacell take care of them in spring never put anything on in the fall and never had an issue.

I must be very offensive.... Even ticks don't want to be around me.... Lol.... I do most of the digging with the Beatles at camp and find one on my clothes every now and then.... In the last 4 years every one of the old guys that sit watch have had to have one pulled out of them at one point or another....

Ticks are horrendous down here. I use Advantix on the dogs to keep ticks off them. If the kids are out in the grass I check them really carefully and I use the "Tick Key" from Lee Valley to remove them. The first year we lived in NS there were ticks everywhere. Last year wasn't so bad but as mild as the winter was this year I'm guessing they'll be everywhere this year. Time to get some guineafowl to patrol the yard.
