what to shoot out of a 1:10 twist?

with the 1:10 twist rate, what do you find your rifle liking to shoot the most? I'm referring primarily to factory ammo, but will entertain handloading as I'll give the recipe to my brother.

we're talking about how fast that rate is and thinking maybe I should be shooting something lighter out of my rifle instead of 150-180g that I have been.

30 cal? if so 150-165's or 180-220 for hunting in the bush should be fine.

there's so much leeway in the 1/10 twist in 30 cal , you basically have the whole spectrum to choose from- i do believe it has a preferance for the "heavier" slugs though= say 180's and above

my 308 has the 1:14 and it loves the 150 grain 1" and under. Anything heavier it starts giving me 3" - 5" groups.

define reasonable, most of the loaded TSX stuff i have seen is well over $50.00 a box. FS

X2 on that. If you're not handloading, I'd stick with the cheap factory fodder for plinking. Federal blue box cheapies in 180gr SP will do the trick...

If you're going to drop $50-$75 a box on premiums for target shooting, you might better put that cash into a reloading press and dies...

I was referring to a T/TSX hunting load for my trip in two weeks, not something to plink with. sorry. when I start handloading, then I'll roll my own T/TSX.

Federal premium TSX...depending on the calibre (I didn't notice it earlier if you mentioned) and grain are going to run you around 65 - 75 bucks a box...as will Winchester Accubond 180gr currently at wholesale and a bit more at the smaller shops...It's an awful lot of damn money, and I couldn't agree more with someone else's sentiment you should invest the money for reloading...you can easily work up an acceptable hunting load in the time you have left and you will be making the same bullets, but taylor built for your rifle, for around 45 a box..the price of premium ammo with TSX or accubonds makes me sick when I know damn well that the ammo manufacturers can buy componets for a fraction of what I pay, and still charge an arm and a leg for something I can make at home for far less when they would for sure be making money at the same 45 bucks a box I can build em for. Sorry about the rant...I would tell you though, unless you're sure your rifle likes factory TSX, you might want to try the Accubonds out, as I have found they shoot much better, on average, then factory loaded rounds with TSX....though results may vary

My savage 308 has a 1-10 twist and does good with 150gr and OUTSTANDING with 165gr.
