I have shot dozens of wild boars and I find that there are times that you run out of ammo before running out of pigs. Go with the .44 mag. It is plenty of gun. I have shot them with everything from .308 to different 12 gauge loads to 9mm. They all work (more or less). I imagine a 7.62x39 with a number of mags at hand would be really ideal.

Well, I went out and got a 269 lb. sow. 1 shot in the head at about 30 yards. 350 gr. SP, left about a 2" hole in the skull on the way out. Now, let it hang for a week or so, and butcher it. No arguments from the pig at all.

To those who ask where and how much - it's called Ranch d'Amérique, about 30 miles from Mont Tramblant and he charges $3.50 a lb on the hoof, $30 to gut and skin it. He can do the butchering, but I like to do it myself. Anyone wants more info can PM me.

He also has bison and elk.

None of the above....I don't like any of those choices.

Gotta use something I own. It had to be a lever gun (bolt guns have lost their shine except for long range or super accurate shooting). I wanted a fast second shot, so that ruled out frontstuffers, and I didn't feel like using the bow or X-bow - although that may change at some point.

Firstly seen a few pictured of suppressed Soviet rifles in "Gung Ho" magazine about a decade back.
More recently most of us Westerners have been only 'exposed' to this caliber of rifle on various computer games. ;)

I googled it if course. Looks interesting but very specific purpose. Much easier ways for us to get the same performance. But I like learning about new cartridges regardless. Surprised it's been around so long yet hardly heard of though. :)

Ye can thank the Turdeau & previous gov't fer that one, seein' that Canuckistan has trade sanctions against Russia at present. Fookin' idiots!:(

I wouldn't hesitate to use my 94 in 32 special with my hard cast handloads. Been good to me for over 50 years, even dropped a few moose and bears with it.
Never felt under-gunned, just placed my shots judiciously.

PapaClaude its Wednesday.

so how did it go?

Fantastic. Got a 269 lb. sow. 1 in the head with the 45-70. Sure slowed down quick. There was a nice boar with her, but the meat from the sow is better. Had some of the liver for supper. It's hanging in the garage for a week or so, until I butcher it.

I love lever guns and own several but a shotgun should never be made in a lever gun, that's pure sacrilege!!
