What to use to clean mosin metal parts

Just varsol will do. It stinks but does not harm anything. Water and shellac do not get along.

dish soap and boiling water, and a bristle brush

Varsol, paint thinner, old gas, and hot water will work nicely. ..just dont get too zealous scrubbing and remove some of the finish..

I tried G96 on my JRC for the first time, I must say, it cleaned everything like new like you wouldn't believe. I had a hopps 9 cleaning kit from CT and it didn't do anything, get a can of G96 you won't be disappointed
