last Sunday i went for a ride so i grabbed my gun and tried to tape up the muzzle with electrical tape but i found out that at -30 electrical tape looses all it's stickiness, does anybody know something else that would work.

i think i'll try tuck tape i think duck tape will leave a residue on the barrel, warming the gun defeats the purpose of leaving it outside so it don't freeze

use a non lubricated condom (you may have to unwind it to the serial numbers. what? you've never unrolled one that far before ;) )

or cut the fingers off a rubber glove or surgical glove and use them like a condom.....

tuck tape will definetly stay on your barrel, that #### stays on everything it touches. Just get a decent quality electric tape and tape it while all is warm, it should stay. I had a 220 Swift taped up and it worked fine on a few -40 days without re-taping.

what when holds the rubber or the glove finger on?

I just buy a bag of baloons from the dollar store for a dollar...go figure ....you get 50 for a buck and they work when its very cold and stay on until fired or removed.

Duct tape will lave residue, but can easily be cleaned off with rubbing alcohol.

You can warm the end of the barrel, apply the tape and put the rifle outside.

:)

uphere, I don't know if you mean "DUCT" tape, the silver grey stuff? If so, the glue is slightly acidic and will cause rust to appear on your bbl, maybe even right on the edges of the muzzle = accuracy loss? bearhunter

Interesting about the duct tape...I've used it a few times with no problems, but they are always stainless barrels. Electrical tape is still my preference. I've used finger cots, and they work, but are fragile.

I've used electrical tape for ½ of forever, but I use quality tape, not the bargain store 10 rolls for $2.00 crap. I also always put it on the barrel well before I head outside. I have never had a problem. Regards, Eagleye.

I use the cut off end of an eye dropper. Works great, stays on well and is reusable, as long as you don't pull the trigger with it on ;)

Crappy Tire sells electrical tape that is rated for low temps....Pretty much all I use.

Regular electrical tape works just as well as long as you tape up when the metal is warm.

You can pick up "finger cots" at many dollar stores for a $1/box
These are little condoms you use on your fingers to protect if you have a cut. Just the right size to fit snug on a barrel.

Having worked as an electrician in cold weather for many years, and having tried most electrical tapes along the way,I have yet to find any tape sold at Crappy Tire that is in the same class as Scotch 88.The difference is so dramatic, that our company won't buy anything else.

the "stickieness" of electrical tape varies from brand to brand with the ultra cheap 3/100 being the worst in cold weather- i used to install intercoms /matv/ electrics for a living and found that the 3m was the best in cold weather- like as in -30 and better- this was in the old days when we had to solder the connections and then tape or mars connect and then tape the mars to secure it to the wire-
