what to use to tape up a barrel

the latex finger cots are a pretty good idea... you can get them in the standard condom color (lol) or black or orange. just pick them up if you shoot them off, dont leave mini-condoms all over peoples fields, hehe.
shoppers drug mart sells them.

i usually just bought small black rubber gloves at the dollar store and cut the fingers off with scissors... but the cots seem like a much simpler idea.

A foam ear plug rolled up and partinally stuck in the barel does the trick at any temp.

Don't take this as a flame, but to put anything "in" the barrel, as opposed to "over" the end of the barrel, is not a good idea. Snow in the end of a barrel has been known to bulge or even split a barrel. If that earplug picked up some moisture and froze, I can see a ruined barrel. Better to have your protection on the outside. Regards, Eagleye.

I cant believe that as a bunch of canucks where hockey is the supreme
sport only one nut said Hockey tape.We have rolls upon rols of hockey tape in the house ,both cars even in the back packs.and only a couple of rolls of elec tape,Hockey tape can lso now be had in many dif camo colors.LOL

as far as i can tell hockey tape is a fibrous/absorbent material, in addition to the adhesive on it.
IMO not really the ideal thing to keep on the tip of a barrel in bad weather, especially a blued barrel - although no worse than the canvas covers i suppose.

i prefer something that keeps moisture out of the barrel and doesnt have any messy adhesives like a rubber cap or condom type thing.

Finger cots are just small condoms. Cheap and they work very well, plus they are a fair bit thicker than condoms too. Places that sell safety stuff usually carry them. 144 for a few bucks.

I've used cheap black electrical tape without a problem. The tape has to be put on warm as previously mentioned. I pull off enough so that there is 4" - 6" on either side of the barrel, then I make a few wraps around the barrel to hold it in place.

I don't know how guys that actually use their rifles to hunt with can recommend a balloon or finger "condom" with a straight face. They are extremly fragile and also have a tendency to fall off. Scotch 88 for me!

You can use any tape. First lay a band of tape across the muzzle and push down the sides...next makes a ring of tape around the barrel just below the muzzle over the top of the existing tape and go all the way around a couple times. ANY tape should stick to itself even at low temperatures and will hold the the band of tape over the muzzle.

Hope this makes sense...sometimes its harder to describe things than to show them...
