ok what tools would one need to change the barrel on a M1 Grand and who sell them and whats a ball park price

thanks :)

You would need a barrel block and a receiver wrench. The barrel block goes into the vice and you reef on the action with the wrench. There are diagrams out there somewhere to make your own wrench and a barrel block is usually a block of steel bored out to the same diameter as your barrel and sawed in half. This is rather simplistic. I think you may be able to buy them for somewhere around $50. apiece but I do not know where except maybe for Brownell or Numrich in the States.

I try to make my own wrenches and tools.

A barrel vise with the correct bushing and an action wrench that is specific for the M-1, plus a complete set of headspace guages for the installation of the new barrel as a minimum.
Brownell's sells the vise with the bushing for $153.24US, plus shipping, etc. The action wrench for $109.97US plus shipping, etc. The 'etc' will be duty and both PST and GST taxes. The Free Trade Act does not apply to anything firearm related. Kind of pricey for one rifle.
You'll need a very sturdy work bench too.

thats strange. i've bought several handguns and rifles from the states. each time they ask where they were made, i said US(reguardless of actual origin :) )and never paid duty, only tax.

You are correct. NAFTA does apply to all qualifying materials including guns & parts. I do not know why someone would say they don't

You will need a strong bench vice, a wrench and barrel blocks. The blocks can be made if you have acesss to machine tools. The wrench can be fabricated as well.

Where are you located in Ont. ? Do you have the barrel?
