What tops your encore?

I'm just about finished building my(in my opinion)everything rifle. This will be my behind the seat gun, my paper puncturing gun, my varmint gun and mostly my deer gun.

I have a Thompson Encore with a 25/06 prohunter barrel. I just purchased a Zeiss conquest 3.5-10x44 scope for it and now I need some mounts. I really like the look of the game reaper one piece mounts, and have read good things.

What I'm unsure about is the height of the mounts I should use. The factory said that the low rings (1 inch from the barrel to the centerline of the scope) would accept that particular scope, but I'm worried about hammer clearance. The medium rings seem like they might be too high at 1.250 inches from the barrel to the centerline of the scope.

Anyone using these mounts on their Encore? How about the talley one piece mounts?

Thank you

Well, maybe I'm talking with myself, but here goes.....

So I purchased a Game reaper scope mount for my encore. I went with the medium mounts because there would only be 3/8 of an inch for the hammer clearance.

Should be a week before I get it here, maybe a little longer. Ill keep myself informed?!?

Ok I'm listening ;) But not without pictures. Where did you get your mounts from? I was thinking of getting some too. I like to mount my scopes as low as possible, and yes it is a little difficult to pull the hammer back at times. Glad I don't have big thumbs.

I'll post some pictures as soon as I get the rig set up. I ordered the mounts from opticsplanet.com. They were on sale and cheaper than the manufacturers web site.

Like I was told, the low mounts would have probably worked, but I wanted a little more thumb clearance. If I was wearing gloves or something like that. I also thought better safe than sorry.

I'm having a problem with ordering the scope rings. There has been a little set back. There won't be pics soon.

The scope did arrive yesterday. It is one fine piece! Now if I could just get it on the gun, that would be another story.

My recommendation would be to use the lowest rings possible that would provide adequate clearance between the scope and the hammer and leave adequate space between the barrel and the bell of the scope.

I have a hammer extender on mine so that you don't have to put your thumb under the scope.

Some shooters like high sitting scopes so that their cheek will sit at the right spot on the butt stock when looking through the scope. I don't like to bend my neck to look through the scope properly and the size of your head is a factor here.

I have low rings on my ML barrel and high ones on my 300 WM. The low rings will give a hammer clearance of more than 1/4 in and with my hammer extender, I can operate the hammer very effectively.

The low rings do feel better for me when it comes to cheek placement and eye alignment with the scope. I realize that this is a personal preference and I would try it out if you consider it important.

I have heard this before, and I should probably try to find out what height feels best for shooting. Its just kind of hard when you are doing it mail order. Maybe I can jury rig some rings to see what fits best. Thanks for the heads up on ring selection duke.
