What tumbler to buy

Be interesting to see how that Frankford Arsenal unit hold up. Looks like a good piece of kit. I been looking to get into stainless tumbling for a while, just hummin and hawing as to which way to go. I gotta start shooting/loading more as well, kids got me in a slump :(

Sorry Silver. If I didn't buy that Rebel 17 I would have bought this one. Didn't know that someone was stocking it in Canada.

Actually there was a price drop and I asked for a discount and got it so it helped .. and I liked your review / comparison.. :) and I needed a bigger one I only had the 3 lb model.

Getting lazy Zuke? No pictures this time?

To the OP, Stainless is expensive to start but you will never look back. I love the no dust part and it is much quieter then my vibrating one.

Thought I'd let someone else post pic's for a change!

Mine from treasure seeker's also came with the low speed motor, but I shipped it back to Thumbler's and got the high speed. Also replaced the wing nut's with knob's.What a differance!

Hey guys I have boiled my tumbler choices down to Rcbs or Hornady vibratory case cleaners. They may even be the same unit in a different color.
So which one do you guys prefer? I can get either one brand new for 115 bucks.
I have only had one, and it is still working after many years........the RCBS vibratory.

Congrats! Looking forward to the review. I'm thinking of picking up a unit too eventually. I like the direct drive over belt unit.

For those of you that have returned or replaced the low speed motor in the thumler tumbler, has anyone actually noticed a difference in cleaning time? I would bet there is no appreciable improvement, Just another urban legend, in my opinion. I use the low speed thumler with ceramic media, and 1.5 hours is plenty. 3 hours makes very little difference.

Then your using too much soap.
Hey Zuke that could be ... I tend to be a "if a little is good then more is better" type, however I do find that when rinsing I dont get the bubbles that you get with dish soap. I also use a few shots of SPRAY 9 which I find really does an amazing job at removing carbon and sizing lube.

As for the High Speed motor cleaning faster - I now have a Tumbler with both motors - I assume the high speed will work faster because you move more media over the brass in the same amount of time so I suspect it will shorten cleaning times - maybe down to one hour for the same results. Will it get it cleaner - nope - Clean is clean and shiny is shiny

I use a pump soap dispenser, 6 pump's for dirty brass, 8 for REALLY dirty, and some time's a water/soap/lemmishine change 1/2 way thru the cycle.

Either is good, choose your favourite color. Are you going to the range with clean brass or jewellery? Based on how much ammunition you go through, decide if the extra outlay upfront outweighs the need to purchase media.....some guys just buy the best regardless if they need it or not.

Ya mean like LEE and rcbs?

You could build your own as well. Last time I ran this with 20 lbs of media & 1000 223 cases. Weighed about 80lbs when topped off with water.
