what tumbler to buy

So ive been reading alot of posts about tumblers but still not sure whats good and whats bad. So i was wondering is someone would give me ther 2 cents on tumblers looking to do about 500 a month pistol brass.
 
I have a Lyman also and it's been good. It's the model that you can drain so I don't need to use a separator. I empty it while it's running and then stir the brass by hand and it vibrates the media out of the cases.
 
You can't beat the price of the Cabela's unit. I've ran about 2000 pieces of brass through mine when I first got it a few months ago and it worked great. I can't give you a long-term review though.
 
I have a Thumlers I got from Cabelas (before I joined CGN and found the great dealer network here) when I ordered my reloading gear. I have used it for rocks and brass. Rocks are the hardest on the equipment since the tumbler runs for a few weeks straight with different media. It is pretty quiet and I like it so far. I now realize I should have gotten the one with the larger drum. Works for me since I do smaller batches anyway.
 
If you want the cleanest brass possible, in the shortest time, go with a rotating tumbler that allows you to use stainless media. It will cost you more than a vibrating tumbler, but the brass will come out looking better than new in short order.
 
Happy with Hornady tumbler. Got the walnut media from pet store (lizard bedding) and corn husk from Walmart (small rodent bedding).

Just toss it all in, set the timer at night, take care of it whenever, benefit of dry media.
 
Used Bounce sheets work well to control the dust with dry media. I use about 5 full sheets every time.
 
Do not get the Quick-n-EZ Case Tumbler from WSS. Mine worked well for 2 years the the motor went on it. Warranty was only 1 year so that was out and when I contacted the manufacturer they responded saying they could not sell me a motor because of liability issues. I asked for contact info for the motor importer(made in China) but again they would not give me the info. Now I have a tumbler with a shot motor and no way to get a replacement unless I go to China...stay away from that one!

The best tumbler on the market is the Dillon unit. I bought the CV2001 large tumbler and started using it in May 2000. It will clean about 1000 9mm cases at one time or maybe 800 38specials. Two and a half hours, start to finish.
Its big, cleans alot and is reliable. Puts all the puny tumblers to shame, and lasts a long time.

Where do you get one, and how much, please?
 
For 3 years I used a frankfurt arsenal tumbler. I was able to get about 300+ 45 acp ect in it. I found that run times varry based on how clean you want the brass. Mist times I would let it run overnight and all day while I was at work. I got mine out of the states and it was around $50.

Biggest downside is the dust. When the media get used for a while I found that it was even leaving a dust layer on the brass and I had to wipe it off. I used mine for thousands of brass and it is still working fine. I found that walnut media cleaned the best but the corn cob made it shine the best. Some people use a combo of both. Also brass polisher helps make it shiny.

I have just, 1 week ago, switched to the thumblers tumbler using stainless steel pins. I have ran a few hundred brass through it. I will never use the vibrator tumbler again. I don't have to clean the primer pockets anymore and the brass is cleaner inside and out. There is no more dust and it is more quite. The only downside is the model I bought doesn't hold as much brass but it cleans them in 1/4 of the time.

It does cost more to get started with the ss media but I have spent more that in the last 3 on media. If I could go back and change it I would. I would have started with the ss tumbler.

This is just my opinion.
