Yeah I took a nice black bear with them as well but didn't want to mention that on here and start an internet fight.![]()
Ha! Yeah, the OCD guy on here would chase you around the internet.

And why is it that all the guys that know the 22s won't work all live in Ontario?
It was quite a while ago, I don't know if I have any pics of that bear. Here are a couple from this year, mule deer doe shot with a .223 and a Barnes bullet. Can't argue with the carnage

(all the guys from Ontario) that's lots of people
One of the first whitetail I shot was with a 222 Rem and 55gr SP. broadside, 100 yds., double lung. Deer went 450 yards and died in a swamp. The bullet exited and it performed as it should. But there was no snow, and no blood trail. Without the dog, I wouldn't have found him.
For my uses, the 22's don't kill reliably enough, regardless of bullet type or shot placement, and that's why I won't use them anymore on game larger than coyote. I also don't like testing minimal cartridges/bullets on animals to see if they work.

Ironic you should mention that. A buddy of mine, his boy shot a buck this year with a 7/08 and a 140... same shot, same placement, well other than punching a shoulder, deer went about 700 yards though. Guess his 10 yr old should be stepping up to a 300win mag and 180's next year?
Did you shoot that thing at the zoo? At least take it home to skin it.![]()

Of course it did, you spined it. A 22 mag would've done the same.My experiences have been just the opposite. Todbartell shooting a mule deer with the .221 Fireball, the deer took a few steps then she toppled over. The deer I posted that pick of dropped on the spot. The bear took a could of steps then fell over. All died within sight with no run. All Barnes bullets.
Testing out a load prior to hunting with it to see what it does in comparison to other cartridges is a very good idea. Before Bartell and I set out on the Flat tops and Fireball hunt, we tested and compared the load in wood, and found that the "wound" channel and penetration was virtually identical to 30-30 performance, and did better than the 125gr Ballistic Tip from the 300WSM, which basically blew apart.
WAIT WAIT WAIT, are you indicating that shot can happen with ANY bullet or cartridge combination?!?!?
And apparently all have identical depth of experience with centerfire 22's on BG. At least all have been either very careful not to mention actual experience, or are just being modest.
