Picked this up for a reasonable price... Have no clue what it is, aside from a serial number on the receiver right side front band there are no other visable marks.

Bolt has 9 lugs total and straight flutes with a magnum face, it's a long action with a tang safety.

One of the things I love about this site...tons of collective knowledge. :)

Cool looking action btw, what are your plans for it?
Do you have a project in mind?

Thanks everyone... Dunno what I'd do without CGN :D

Well... Think I'm going to find a stock for it and if it shoots ok maybe get the action refinished in matte black or an off gray...
The trigger is quite crisp and the barrel looks to be in good shape...

Heh... Now to find a stock for an obscure browning built in the 80's...

Easier now than 10 years ago that's for sure. A quick google will bring up a few. I dealt with a few of these back then, and they all had cracked and or broken stocks. I cant think of another rifle make/model that proportionally had as many broken stocks. I loved the big beefiness of the BBR, but that stock problem kept me from ever getting one. You can now buy a wide range of them, including synthetics, which is likely the way I would go.

Its a Browning BBR . Browning copied Weatherby . Weatherby sued Browning for copying their 9 locking lug system. That action was only built for 6 yrs 1978 - 1984 .
I have 1 in 7-08 thats in mint condition and love it !! Very nice action imo

On the HVA rifles it's mostly the BEECH stocks showing the "Mauser crack". Actually, any staggered cloumn magazine will permit that crack to happen. This is one week point of the Mauser desing, copied by many others.
Then, you also have a lot of Brno 21/22 and a whole big lot of Parker-Hale 1200 with cracked stocks, and even original Mauser Oberdorf are plagued with the crack....
