i personly love shotguns, so i was wounder what types of antique status cartridge shotguns are there? what gauges, chambering, and how much do they usualy sell for?
There aren't many cartridge shotguns that aren't on the no-go list for antique status. The occasional 14ga or 24ga. See the flow chart in the stickies.
Best bet is caplocks or pinfires. Prices range from next to nothing into the tens of thousands...
In terms of practical shooters there are a moderate number of pre1898 percussion fowlers and double barrels. I would suggest staying up around 12 guage because the smaller ones tend to be pretty close range with relatively light shot charges. In cartridge guns I suppose you could chamber a 16 guage out to 14 guage and buy special brass shells for it but in terms of unaltered guns there are a few 8 guage guns around but they are relatively few as well as being illegal for migratory birds and the single barrel ones tend to be a little unwieldy for skeet shooting at least. The doubles appear to be less so
