I am looking for a way to log all my shooting in on paper. Setting at distance with weather ammo etc. What is everyone using and where to start with a proper log ? Not on a phone....

Thanks guys.

I personally use a rite-in-rain book and treat it like a journal. Each time I shoot I start a new page and write the date, weather data, any adjusting I do, I draw a picture of my target and where I hit/where I called, log the ammo I used including the load data, and such. I do leave the first few pages blank though as that is where my round count goes and I write all the basic LR equations for range and wind to reminded me, also the back pages is where my standard dope goes for back up.

I like it this way as I never found a single pre-done book that works for every situation, from range on paper, steal in the field and down to hunting I can put whatever I need/feel will assist me in my next shot. I have one book per rifle, and when I fill it up I just go buy a new one and keep the old one for back-up.

I used to do a log book. Now I just shoot. When the barrel don't shoot good I replace it.

With all the ballistic apps and such I don't worry about it anymore

I use a 3"x5" note book. Can be had for really cheap from staples or somewhere similar.

Write the date, weather info and all the other stuff you need to know.

If you want me to take a pic of one of my entries let me know.

Looking at piecemeal raw data is of limited value to me. I write my data down in whatever paper I have with me, then I add it to previous data in Excel sheets when I get home and look at the bigger picture. You often get a clearer picture of things when the data is put into charts. Patterns and trends are easier to spot. I take pictures of test targets and store them for reference.

So far this is has not been helpful. I was hoping for a nice logbook that some company made. I currently use just a 8.5x11" Staples hardcover book, record my data and then transfer at home if I need. Seems like I am doing what I need to already....hahaha Guess I will save my money for nice pens instead.

Ready-made logbooks will be filled with fields for data that you probably don't ever want to record. They are made to someone else's standards for someone else's ideal of what they need to be recording. You will have a bunch of pages that have a bunch of blank fields. A standard bound notebook is all that you need.

This is pretty much what I do when I'm serious about the results

Here's a PDF of what I use:

I browsed a bunch of different log-books for ideas (mostly online) and culled just the info that I wanted for my own use. You're welcome to use it as is, or email me at QCAMPBELL@YAHOO.COM for the original Excel file so you can modify it as needed. I live in a Mac world, so some/most/all formats may/will be lost in translation to PC...

Wow Qball that's sweet! You made that up of eh? Nice work. Love how you have both MILS and MOA. Nice touch for sure. How large do you print those sheets up. Full size or do you use a smaller ring binder. Anyway Thanks so much. I'm going to use that if you don't mind>

Google Shooting Voodoo Sniper Data Book. There's examples of several different pages. i made mine in Excel so they print out two per page. I carry everything in a mini binder. I'm away right now so I can't post photos.

Absolutely, you are welcome to it! I keep everything in a regular 1" ring binder printed on regular 8.5x11 pages. I'm not overly concerned about the size/weight, as I never have to pack my stuff too far from the truck where we shoot...
